McNabb benched by shoulder
June 10, 2008
So just a few days ago, I wrote about Donovan McNabb and how the Philadelphia Eagles could already be without their star player. Lots of people took offense to this article, actually wait no, a lot of Eagles fans took offense. The consensus thought was that I was implying McNabb would be out for a while, when really at the time it was a minor injury. The point of that article thou was to ask questions about why the team was being so secretive and that the main thing was to keep an eye on this. Here we are almost one week later and McNabb is now completely shut down with a case of shoulder tendinitis. Still not a major injury, but bears watching. Read more
More troubles for Koren Robinson
May 10, 2008
Trouble just seems to find its way to former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Koren Robinson. This time thou he’s not directly implicated. His brother Tariq Robinson was recently arrested for trafficking ecstasy. How does this relate Koren thou? Other then the obvious of being brothers.
Well, Koren owns the house that Tariq stays in. At the moment, investigators say they have no evidence whatsoever that Koren is involved in any capacity. Only connection is that he owns the house. WRAL.com actually reports that the two have been estranged for over a year now.
When it comes to football thou, this can’t help Koren out. He’s currently a free agent after being released by the Packers, and that stint with the Pack came after a year long supension. No matter what he says, there will be some teams that will now question can he ever shake his past. The team that signs him now might be one that is truly desperate for a wide receiver. Profootballtalk.com said that teams that have shown interested in Koren are the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders. I’m sure the Raiders are interested no matter what.
We’ll have to wait and see on this. Hopefully this stays with just his brother and doesn’t effect Koren in anyway.
The Rhodes back to Indy
May 6, 2008
It looks like Dominic Rhodes is heading back home to Indianapolis. Adam Schefter of the NFL Network, says the Indianapolis Colts and Rhodes should come to an agreement sometime soon. If a deal is reached, he’d be the primary back-up to Joseph Addai. This arrangement could only happen thou thanks to the Oakland Raiders, holding to their word. Who thought that would ever happen?
Back in March, the Raiders restructured the contract for the running back to keep him with the team. The restructure was due to a roster bonus he was about to receive, in return for doing this he was given the team’s word that if Darren McFadden was drafted the team would release him and give him a chance to find a new home. Well, McFadden was drafted and the team held to its word and released Rhodes.
There is no word on how much money Rhodes will make in Indy, but I don’t expect to be much. This does spell trouble for last year’s back-up Kenton Keith thou. For those who don’t already know, Keith was arrested last month for refusing to leave a nightclub parking lot. With the drafting of Mike Hart and soon-to-be resining of Rhodes, it appears the team will be looking to part ways with the now troubled Keith.
If Schefter is right, and Rhodes re-joins the Colts, it would be the best scenario for the aging back. Rhodes never really got the chance to prove himself in Oakland, and was very unlikely to see any playing time this season. At least with the Colts, he can expect 5-10 carries to game as Addai’s back-up.
Raiders pass rush
March 30, 2008
The Oakland Raiders have made numerous off-season additions and they don’t appear to be slowing down yet, even with being dangerously close to the salary cap. The team has signed two defensive lineman over the past couple days and were pretty close to acquiring a third. Out of all the moves they’ve made, these may have been the most beneficial as the Raiders were horrendous at stopping the run last year. Let’s look at the moves.
The first came Friday when the team signed former Detroit Lions’ defensive end Kalimba Edwards. The deal is worth $5 million over 2 years. Edwards was a former 2nd round pick by the Lions but to many fans was considered a huge bust even with 26 sacks over 6 years. Edwards should occupy the role formerly occupied by Chris Clemons who signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, which would be a pass-rush specialist to replace Derrick Burgess on the passing downs. There’s also a chance he could jump ahead of Jay Richardson as a starter.
Second move came Sunday as the team signed Akbar Gbaja-Biamila (the brother of KGB in Green Bay), to a 2-year deal. He’s no guarantee to make the team but if he does he’ll be a defensive reserve and also play special teams.
The almost move was the team almost brought back one-time raider Grady Jackson. Jackson now plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars. If this move would of happened, Tommy Kelly would of stayed at the defensive end position and Jackson would occupy the middle. Now thou it looks like the team doesn’t want to add another lineman through free agency, even thou Jackson could still really help them out.
If the team decides to add another lineman it would come thru the draft. And I wouldn’t put it pass them to still select LSU DT Glenn Dorsey if he falls to the #4 pick.

Titans moving past Pacman?
March 29, 2008
It looks as if the Tennessee Titans are starting to prepare for a 2008 without Pacman Jones. Friday afternoon, the Titans signed former Oakland Raiders’ CB/KR Chris Carr to an offer sheet. Oakland now has 7 days to match the contract or lose Carr. Good news for the Titans, if Oakland does NOT match the deal, the team doesn’t have to give any compensation as Carr was an undrafted free agent when he joined the team.
The 25-year old Carr has had a fairly good career so far with Oakland, mainly as a kick returner thou. This past season, Carr became the Raiders all-time leader in kick returns, 201, and kick return yardage, with 4841. The team also started to give Carr more action at the corner position in 2007 and he responded with his best numbers 24 tackles and 1 pass deflected.
Carr instantly makes the Titans special teams unit better, that much is a given. But does this signal the team is ready to move-on from the Pacman? If Jones remains suspended for the 2008 season, Carr helps give the team more depth at the position and with his speed he could easily play the opponent’s deep threat/speed burner.
This also gives more validity to the report by NFL Network’s Adam Schefter that a trade with the Dallas Cowboys is imminent. According to Schefter the Cowboys and Titans spent most of Thursday talking and he believes a deal could be finalized within the next couple days. AND Pacman could be in Dallas and available for an official announcement. This of course all pending reinstatement.
Dilfer heading to Oakland?
March 23, 2008
It looks like Trent Dilfer’s career isn’t over after all. After being cut by the San Francisco 49ers it looked like the 36-year olds career was over. But of course the Oakland Raiders come to the rescue and show interest in Dilfer. Dilfer spoke today at his chuch, “Northside Christian Church” in Clovis, Califonia and told people that the Raiders have shown interest in him. The Fresno Bee, reported that some people in the church actually started to cheer.
So why would the Raiders be interested in ANOTHER quarter back? They have JaMarcus Russell, last years first pick, who should be the starter in 2008. They have Andrew Walter at back-up and there is still the possibility that Daunte Culpepper re-signs with the team. The team is nervous about Russell’s weight, as the last I’ve heard he’s starting to look the size of an offensive lineman. Even thou, why would they be interested in a 36-year old who just missed half of last season with a concussion.
Doesn’t make sense to me, but hey thats the Raiders for you. Here’s the article from the Fresno Bee.
DeAngelo Hall and Raiders talk extension.
March 17, 2008
ESPN’s John Clayton reports that the Oakland Raiders and DeAngelo Hall have a contract extension in place once he’s officially acquired. The deal is smaller but almost comparable to the one Asante Samuel received from the Philadelphia Eagles. Hall will get over $50 million during a 6-year deal. When Samuel received that much money I was a little surprised, but Hall I’d say is more deserving. Some say Samuel was the #1 free agent on the market and one of the best corners in the league, but I personally find Hall to be a better corner and he’s younger at only 24 with 2 pro bowls under his belt already. I think he’s more of a shut down corner then Samuel. But nonetheless back to the deal.
To acquire Hall, the Raiders have to put the finishing touches on the trade with the Atlanta Falcons. There was supposedly a deal in place yesterday, contingent on Hall signing a contract extension. The deal calls for the Falcons to receive Oakland’s second round draft pick.
This trade and extension would give Oakland arguably the TOP secondary in the game, but without a doubt top 3 corner tandems in the game. The Raiders did manage to keep Nnamdi Asomugha for the 2008 season by slapping the franchise tag on him. Asomugha and Hall will be one hell of a combo and this may wind up being the best move the Raiders have made yet this post season. This deal would also give the Raiders protection should Asomugha leave via free agency after this season.
