Taylor to Packers deal looking unlikely

June 20, 2008

Jason TaylorThere were rumors this week that the Green Bay Packers were considering a trade for the Miami Dolphins Jason Taylor. Now their are conflicting reports about what is actually going on, the only thing consistent is that a deal is pretty much in dream land. ESPN’s John Clayton feels there is no chance of one happening, while the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel does list a few ways that this deal can happen. Read more

Packers looking to dance?

June 18, 2008

Jason TaylorCould the Green Bay Packers be looking into Jason Taylor? According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, the Packers have made an exploratory inquiry with the Miami Dolphins in regards to Taylor. It’s no secret that Taylor has wanted out of Miami, but this is interesting timing as reports have said the sides semi-made up and Taylor was willing to play out his contract for the Dolphins. Taylor wants to play for a Super Bowl contender. The Packers even without Brett Favre, should be in the NFC playoff hunt. Is this is a good match , is it really a possibility??? Read more

McCown leading the race in Miami

June 15, 2008

John BeckAfter a month of various camps it looks like the Miami Dolphins have a front runner for the quarterback position. Some teammates have said that Josh McCown has been the sharpest out of the three. We’ve talked about the Dolphins situation before, earlier in camps the team was rotating them between units but I’d guess McCown will be starting training camp with the first team. Mind you, this battle is far from over as he doesn’t have a huge lead over the other options. Read more

Dolphins rotating QBs

May 22, 2008

John BeckThe Miami Dolphins have a quarterback battle on their hands, unfortunately none of them are quality starters. During the first days of OTA’s Josh McCown and John Beck have been alternating snaps with the first team. Outside of Dolphins fans, most probably don’t even know who Beck is. Well, he’s the teams 2nd round draft choice from the 2007 draft. This year’s draft choice Chad Henne has been bumped down to third team work for workouts. Read more

Can Taylor dance his way out of Miami?

April 24, 2008

So Jason Taylor wants out of Miami, and the Miami Dolphins are doing their best to accommodate. That much is pretty well known, but what are the chances that he’ll get traded, or even dance his way in to the sunset and retire. Lets look at the possibilities.

Trade. I think a trade is going to be pretty hard to do because of the value the Dolphins have placed on the soon to be 34 year old Taylor. The team would like a mid-to-late first rounder, while other scouts look at him being a second rounder at best, with maybe performance based future considerations. Another thing, Taylor has said he’ll retire if he’s not dealt to a championship contender. According to John Clayton at ESPN, a 1st or 2nd round pick is a long shot for Taylor at this point in his career, and the Fins would be lucky to get a 3rd. We all know Bill Parcells, he doesn’t get involved with a team for the long haul, he wants to win and win quick, so why would he give up a very effective Taylor for a 3-round player they need to develop?

Retirement. Taylor has threatened to retire if traded to a non-contender. As well as, threatening to retire if not dealt. So what are the Dolphins to do? Well Parcells it looks like is playing hardball. “The only way Jason Taylor won’t be playing for the Dolphins in 2008 is if he chooses to retire,” Parcells said.

Whats likely to happen? I believe he’ll be in a Dolphins uniform next season. Taylor is to good of a talent for the short-sighted Parcells to just give up for a developmental project. Parcells also knows the best chance for the Fins to become competitive again is to have this guy on his defense. The Dolphins have over $18 million in cap room so they do have money in the coffins. It could be possible that Miami throws a few extra dollars his way in bonus money to keep him happy. But in the end, Taylor isn’t walking away from the money he’ll earn this year. Clayton said it best, “If a deal does not come to pass, Taylor and the Dolphins have to look at this as a no-harm, no-foul situation.”

Jags sign Porter, Lemon and make trade

February 29, 2008

The Jacksonville Jaguars had a busy day making a couple signs and a trade. The moves include signing wide receiver Jerry Porter, QB Cleo Lemon and trading for wide receiver Troy Williamson. Lets break down all the moves:

  • Jerry Porter - Porter receives $30 million over 6-years, with $10 million of it guaranteed. Personally at this point in his career I think that amount is a little high, but what free agency is bringing this year I guess it could be considered a relative bargain. Porter should be a big threat in the red zone for the Jags, and look for him to start along side Reggie Williams or Matt Jones.
  • Cleo Lemon - Lemon signed a 3-year contract worth just under $9 million. Lemon played respectably on a horrible Miami Dolphins team last year. He should go into the camp as a starter over Quinn Gray and should actually be an upgrade.
  • Troy Williamson - The team traded with the Minnesota Vikings to get his services. The Jags sent a 6th round pick to Minnesota which could improve based on his performance. Williamson would of already been a question mark to make the team pre-Jerry Porter, but now with Porter on the team he is without a doubt NOT guaranteed a spot.

Bills shopping Losman?

February 25, 2008

Buffalo Bills J.P. Losman is entering the last year of his initial rookie contract that he signed as a 1st round pick in the 2004 season. Well he has asked to be traded now, no surprise there since he has already made it known that he plans on leaving Buffalo when the deal expires and shoot for a starting job elsewhere. The Bills on the other hand would love to just keep him around one more year at a cheap salary.

So on to the trade possibilities, two teams have already inquired about his services. The Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins have all talked to the Bills during this weeks NFL Scouting Combine. It’s not really known what the Bills would be looking for but it might wind up being a MLB type trade where the team wants to just get something instead of letting a player walk in free agency.

For the Dolphins, well they need almost everything, so Losman could literally walk in and probably start right away. For the Chiefs, Losman would be in direct competition with Brodie Croyle, which might be what Croyle needs to light a fire under his ass and get him to finally perform.

But the wild card is always does coach Dick Jauron want to just keep J.P. around and have a back-up who is extremely cheap with game experience. Trent Edwards did do well last year but injuries can happen on any snap and take him out for the year. Personally, I don’t think a deal will happen before training camp. Late training camp, early in the season thou well thats a possibility.
