Turning up the Heat at #2
May 22, 2008
At least Pat Riley knows the Miami Heat need a lot of help. The team president is considering trading out of the #2 pick in the draft, instead of drafting either Michael Beasley or Derrick Rose. “We need help. We need it now,” Riley said. “Can [Rose and Beasley] help a team like ours? That’s how they’re going to be measured.” There are already teams lining up for the possibilities of trading up in the draft. Those teams include the Seattle Supersonics, Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies, New Jersey Nets and none other then the New York Knicks. Read more
Zo a go for 2008-09?
March 29, 2008
Once again, it looks like Miami Heat’s center Alonzo Mourning could be pushing off retirement. Back in December, Zo tore multiple tendons in his right knee. He required surgery on multiple tendons in the right quadricep as well to repair his patella. He says he’s still ‘”about six or seven months from making a decision” about his future. It will take that long to finish his rehab and see how much he still has to offer.
Before Thursday’s game, radio station WIOD played an interview with Zo where he sounded pretty optimistic about a return. “The mental part is there,” Mourning said. ”I still want to play the game. I still feel like I have a lot to offer.”
The interesting part about all of this is Zo originally planned to retire at the end of the 2007-2008 season. Now he feels he can come back and play after pretty major knee surgery. I know he’s overcome a lot in his career and still able to play at a very competitive level. But you know what, its time for this 38-year old to hang the jersey up. You’ve had a great career but dude leave your legacy in tact.
