Behind the scenes – Blake & Love Jenga

Couple months ago I showed you the new Jenga advertisement featuring Kevin Love and Blake Griffin. Well today there was a behind the scenes video released on You Tube via the Blake Griffin Channel. By the looks of it I’d say this was one fun video shoot.

Rubio between the legs to Blake

Ricky Rubio went to the playground during tonight’s NBA Rising Stars game. Rubio took down a long rebound and started to take the ball up court. As he was doing so DeMarcus Cousins got in his way so he dribbled the ball through Cousins open legs like he was at the Rucker. After that he continued down court tossing an easy alley-oop pass to Blake Griffin.

Blake talks about Sprite Slam Dunk Contest

Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin was absolutely insane in last years NBA Sprite Slam Dunk Contest and we all are very upset that he’s not defending his title. I and many others just don’t see how any player in the league could put on a show that he did in 2011. Blake sat down with David Aldridge and talked about his decision to skip this years contest and the rest of the season.

After hearing his interview I can kind of respect his decision. He’s got a very busy weekend competing in the Futures and All-Star game if he added the dunk contest it would be a super busy weekend, with no time to enjoy himself. Blake said he basically wants some down time so he can spend it with his family.

The one thing that should give fans hope though is that Blake said that he may be missing this years contest but he won’t close the door on appearing again.

Martin signs with the Clippers

Looks like Kenyon Martin has finally made his way back to the NBA after a detour to China. After being forced to wait out the Chinese seaason the Los Angeles Times is reporting that the forward will sign a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers once he passes a physical.

The Clippers and free-agent forward Kenyon Martin have agreed on a mini-midlevel deal that will be finalized as soon as Martin passes a physical, according to an NBA individual familiar with the negotiations.

Martin, who played for the Xinjiang Tigers in China and had been required to wait until their season was over before rejoining the NBA, was cleared to return to the NBA by FIBA, the international basketball federation, Thursday. (Los Angeles Times)

I’m thinking this is another good move by the Clippers this year. Martin will one provide another veteran process on a team that is still fairly young. In addition to that he should give some very valuable depth to the front court.

The 34-year old might not be able to put up the near double-doubles he did earlier in his career but he did put up 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds over 25+ minutes per game in 2010-11 with the Denver Nuggets. I’d expect something close to that once he’s cleared to play.

Blake Takes A Seat In The Stands

Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin got so bored during today’s game against the New Jersey Nets that he took a seat in the crowd. Well he actually wasn’t bored instead he was making a pretty brilliant save. Blake made a diving save after a long rebound which actually led to a fastbreak dunk for Caron Butler.

Caron Butler took a nasty shot to the groin during the early stages of the Portland Trail Blazers / Los Angeles Clippers game. It occurred as Gerald Wallace was attempting to save a ball from going out of bounds. As he was falling out of bounds he turned and fired a baseball pass at Butler. Unfortunately the ball hit the crown jewels.

Grant Hill Narrows Choices

With NBA free agents just days away from being able to sign with teams, Grant Hill has narrowed his list to just four teams. They include the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers and his prior team the Phoenix Suns. The Suns have a distinct advantage over all but the others also have things he likes.

Grant Hill has his free agent Final Four, according to sources: the incumbent Suns, the Clippers, the Bulls and the Knicks. Each provides its own opportunities. (David Aldridge – NBA.com)

What I’ll do is just list each team and what they can bring.

Phoenix – Well he’s played there for a few years now and thanks to team trainer Aaron Nelson he’s been on the court for all but three games. After the disaster in Orlando, he’s got to love that. According to Aldridge, Hill also really likes to play with Steve Nash. There’s one big factor that can’t be overlooked his former agent, Lon Babby is the teams president.

Chicago – They had the best record in the Eastern Conference in 2010-11 so they obviously give Hill a chance to win that elusive championship. On top of that the team is a defensive juggernaut, only giving up 91.3 points which was good for second in the NBA. One of Hill’s strong suits is defense but with a team that good, he can just blend in instead of having to always guard the other teams top players. Something he’d have to do with the …..

New York Knicks – The Knicks were the third worst defensive team last season giving up 105.7 points. So yea, Hill would most likely be asked to guard the other teams leading scorer night in and night out, which would take its toll on him. On the flip side, he’ll be getting to play with Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire. A third wheel with them could catapult the Knicks to an Eastern Conference leader. Knicks also offer Hill the New York market. A place where he could easily make a lot of extra money in endorsements.

Los Angeles Clippers – They’re a young up and coming team that could use some real veteran leadership. That’s something Hill could provide and he’d get to play with the most exciting guy in the NBA, Blake Griffin.

Personally, I think he’ll wind up back in Phoenix. The Bulls have to worry about Derrick Rose, while the Knicks are still trying to save money for next years free agent class. The Clippers could outspend the Suns but at this point in his career I doubt money is what Hill is after.

Blake Griffin & Kevin Love – Stylin Jenga

Blake Griffin and Kevin Love are at it again. No they aren’t playing basketball. They are back to making commercials while playing Jenga and mannn they got it in! It was the classic Jenga game but like a dunk contest version. It reminds me of an old Michael Jordan / Larry Bird McDonalds commercial but with a game instead.

Jacob Tucker Challenges Blake Griffin

Jacob Tucker of Illinois College is petitioning to be in the 2011 NBA’s Dunk Contest, so in my eyes that means he’s challenging the champion Blake Griffin. Tucker has released a video of him performing various high flying dunks, including some dunks that were performed in this year’s contest. I have to say that the video is pretty damn impressive, especially when you consider he’s only 5 foot 11 inches!!! It’s reported that he has a 50 inch vertical to go with his height.

There’s one problem thou.

In the past you’ve had to be a NBA player to compete in the Dunk Contest and it’s highly unlikely Tucker will even get a workout from a team. Tucker is a senior at Illinois, so he would be eligible. Too bad, that’s Illinois College not University. He is his teams second leading scorer with 14.8 points per game, 7.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

Those are not numbers that will get him into the league, which means those are numbers that won’t get him into the 2011 NBA Dunk Contest. Only way that will happen if he gets this video viral and all the NBA fans across the world on board.
