Only a day after firing his head coach Larry Brown, Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan is exploring trade options to clean up the mess that was left behind. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports is reporting that Jordan is considering trading for Los Angeles Clippers point guard Baron Davis. That’s right, Jordan is considering a trade for the very guy that Clippers owner Donald Sterling heckles at every home game.

For now, Jordan will go with Paul Silas, an old-school tough guy and popular figure in Charlotte’s NBA history, to coach the rest of the season. Silas is a long way removed from the NBA – and longer from his late 1990s success in Charlotte.

And if bringing back Silas isn’t retro enough for everyone, how about Silas’ old Hornets point guard, Baron Davis. Jordan is considering a trade proposal that would send Augustin, DeSagana Diop and Matt Carroll to the Los Angeles Clippers for Davis, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

I know, people will wonder why Jordan would trade Augustin and crew for Baron. Davis has just recently been reinserted to the Clippers starting lineup and hasn’t performed that well since it’s occurred. While, Augustin has been fairly effective for the Bobcats and also eight years younger.

When you look at it that way it’s hard to argue that the trade makes sense but Jordan’s not looking at it that way. He’s looking at cleaning up the mess Larry Brown made. According to Wojnarowski, Jordan never wanted to draft Augustin, he instead wanted to draft Brooks Lopez in that 2008 Draft.

So with Jordan’s ego you know the first thing he’ll do is get rid of his former coaches “guy” and start to make this the team he wanted. While I don’t see Baron Davis helping the team get better, he will at least help in the transition to the new coaches offense. Davis is also a former Charlotte player, so he could help put a few butts in the seats off nostalgia alone.

I wish I could say the Bobcats would at least get some salary relief out of this but Davis isn’t a free agent till after the 2012/2013 season. With that being the case if I was Jordan, I think I’d just swallow my pride and keep the old coaches guy.

It will be interesting to see how things play out over the next year for the Bobcats. Knowing Jordan’s track record, I could see this thing becoming a lot more of a mess before it has any chance of getting better.

Martin Luther King Day is always a busy day in the NBA, games all day and night with some of the best in action. What made it even more special was we found out who this years Slam Dunk participants would be and a lot of those guys were on the court today. So you know they’d all want to try and show why they belong.

So let’s first start off with last years Slam Dunk winner, New York Knicks Nate Robinson. He’s been in coach Mike D’Antoni’s doghouse barely getting on the court but yesterday he got plenty of action and took advantage of it. Robinson will be back to defend his crown and wasted no time getting the hype going.

Loose balls create some of the best dunks in the NBA, but in the Sacramento Kings / Charlotte Bobcats game last night a dunk was created by some impressive loose ball acrobatics. Kevin Martin started it all with a steal, then came the bouncing ball and then an easy Jason Thompson dunk.

The Nets are pretty bad but Courtney Lee can definitely provide a spark when he wants. On this play the Los Angeles Clippers for some reason decided to help cover someone without the ball, leaving Lee and the rock all by himself. So what else would someone do? Take the rock and drive the lane for an easy dunk.

NBATV’s Dunk of the Night came from the Thunder’s Jeff Green and this one time I can’t really argue with their choice. Josh Smith of the Hawks was guarding him at mid-court and still gotten taken all the way to the hoop and jammed on. Smith never even left the hip of Green. Sick.

Jerryd Bayless of the Portland Trailblazers had a pretty easy alley-oop that was dialed up from long range. Andre Miller was about half way between the midcourt and three point line, and threw a line drive pass up to Bayless who snuck behind the Wizards defense.

Now this next play took place in the Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic game, it’s not quite a dunk but more of an attempted dunk. Shannon Brown decided to take it to the hole and go up against one Dwight Howard, that’s usually not a good idea. Maybe Brown was feeling a little bigger then he actually is as he was named to the 2010 Slam Dunk contest as well. Yea, Howard got called for the foul but it was still embarrassing for Brown nonetheless.

Here we go, a weekend edition of the Daily Dunk. Looking over highlight it looks like it was a fairly slow night highlight wise but some of the NBA’s big names went on a roll last night, meaning I was able to find just enough videos today to make the Daily Dunk happen.

We’ll get things going with an alley-oop in the Sacramento Kings / Washington Wizards game. This went from being an ugly bouncing ball all over the court play on the Washington end of the court to a nice simple alley-oop from Tyreke Evans to Spencer Hayes on the other end.

Next up we’ve got one from the King, Lebron James. He made a steal against the Los Angeles Clippers and took the rock coast to coast himself with a powerful jam on the finish. He tried to do the ol’ jump from the free throw line but took one huge step to much to make it happen. When you watch his speed on this play you’ll see that the dunk wasn’t even the most impressive part.

Got another alley-oop for you today. The Ronnie’s out in Utah took it to the Milwaukee Bucks on this play. Ronnie Price made the pretty sweet pass from long range and Ronnie Brewer slammed it home.

When it comes to plays in the post one of my favorite is the putback dunk, preferably the power ones that shake the rim and make all the defenders underneath feel like shit. Well, Amare Stoudemire did just that last night against the Charlotte Bobcats, too bad his team was the one getting embarrassed at that time.

This next one probably included the most star power of any of the dunks today. It involved Rudy Gay and Tim Duncan. Duncan played some help defense in the post and I’d have to say it was pretty weak at that.

Finally is the dunk that NBATV chose as their Dunk of the Night. It comes from Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat. It was a steal in the back court taken all the way down for the one handed jam. It was nice, I just don’t know if it was really the Dunk of the Night thou. What do you think?

I love basketball but it’s so hard to watch an NBA game. Seriously, it’s pretty painful. The games are so slow and there isn’t much excitement anymore. Most people say just watch the last couple minutes, that that’s the only part worth watching. Me, I’d rather just watch the highlights and get all the exciting plays wrapped in to a 30-second clip with the final score. Which got me thinking.

A new feature debuts here today, and that’s the Daily Dunk. There won’t be game highlights and recaps, it will be a six pack of dunks that I found exciting from the previous day. The dunks could come from both the NCAA and the NBA. Most days this will be up by noon, so if you got a dunk you want to see listed, email me early on mysportsrumors [@] mysportsrumors.com and you could see it here.

The first video comes via my boys over at Pippin Ain’t Easy. This is Shannon Browns fast break jam in the Lakers / Bulls game.

<//p>

The next video comes from the Pistons / Rockets game where Aaron Brooks and Chase Budinger dialed it up from long range on a deep alley-oop.

Up next is Michael Beasley of the Miami Heat. He has a great defensive play on one end turning it into a big jam. This one has to be the favorite of the day.

Gerald Wallace absolutely embarrassed my Knicks last night, scoring 21 points. Two of the points came from a monster windmill dunk.

Out in Portland the Sacramento Kings Beno Udrich and Jason Thompson teamed up on a pretty sweet dunk themselves. The best part of this dunk was actually Udrich’s drive to the hole that opened up the lane for Thompson.

Finally, we’re going to go back to the Pistons / Rockets game. Jonas Jerebko had a pretty nice dunk that really shouldn’t of been all that impressive. Well that’s till Carl Landry thought he had a chance to block it.

It’s been a sad week for Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace as two members of his family have passed. On December 7th it was announced that his grandmother had passed away and that he’d miss a few games to be with his family during the grieving process. Sadly, after that all of that it was announced today that his father has too passed. His viewing and funeral are taking place Wednesday and Thursday, which means Wallace will again be away from the family.

Normally, I don’t like talking about such sad circumstances. I’d rather talk about trades, firings, signings, or just plain old stupidity that costs players playing time. But this is such an unusual circumstance I thought I’d mention it. This is a lot for any person to endure, let alone a 26-year old kid. Granted once the grieving process is all over it should only make Gerald even stronger.

Even with all the trade rumors leading up the NBA Draft, the draft itself winds up usually causing so many more. Well this years draft has not let us down. Thanks to two certain picks we now have rumors circulating about a trade between the New York Knicks and Charlotte Bobcats. The focal points of a deal include David Lee and Raymond Felton. Of course each teams local media puts a different spin on every scenario, so lets take a look at both.

For those that somehow don’t know what took place in last nights draft you may be wondering why the rumors? Well the rumors are because both teams selected potential starters in the first round that would make the current ones expendable. In the Knicks case, incumbent power forward Lee has been made available because of the Italian Stallion Danilo Gallinari, who was selected with the sixth pick. For the Bobcats, point guard D.J. Augustin was taken with the teams ninth pick, this selection could make Felton available.

Now to break down each teams local take. The NY Post reports that the Knicks have been actively shopping Lee, even before the selection of Gallinari. Supposedly the team was close to completing a deal that would of sent Lee and Malik Rose to the Memphis Grizzlies for the fifth pick. If that is true, that would of been a complete steal for the Knicks. But now back to this topic, they report that the Bobcats could be interested in his services. The Knicks are obviously looking for a point guard, everyone knows it. New coach Mike D’Antoni isn’t that fond of the ones currently on the roster, and would like a true point to run his system. Felton definitely fits the mold as he can’t shoot a lick but can definitely dish the rock.

The Charlotte Observer says that Raymond Felton’s job is currently safe. They quote General Manager Rod Higgins as saying there was “no truth” to the rumors out of New York. Higgins also stated that Augustin is probably only ready to back-up at the moment, which would create a need for Felton. Rick Bonnell, the author, thinks the team isn’t looking to dump him, but then again if the right deal came along ………

Personally, I don’t know what to believe. The reports out of NY definitely sound a lot like a local media outlet trying to create some ideas, get people thinking, hoping, and of course buying the paper or bringing their web site some traffic. Spit out a deal that makes complete sense even if there is no chance of it actually happening. BUT, at the same time, after reading The Charlotte Observer you could think there has been some talks between the two sides. Higgins responses sound like the classic denial lines you hear from any GM when a trade is possible.

Now do I think David Lee will be traded? Yes. To the Bobcats? I don’t know. There are plenty of teams that would love to have this athletic, energetic young power forward. As a Knicks’ fan, I’d hate to see this kid go but it is obvious he doesn’t fit into the teams future. Back when he was a draft prospect D’Antoni gave the thumbs down to drafting him based on his poor shooting ability. Also the Knicks are attempting to get under the salary cap for the year 2010, Lee is due a contract extension and giving him that would hurt the teams chances to get underneath.

Do I think Raymond Felton will be traded? It’s possible. Would I like him to be a Knick? Without a doubt, he’d be the perfect, low-cost in a trade point guard to run D’Antoni’s system. He’d also allow the team to keep Nate Robinson as a scoring guard which he’d be better suited for. I think acquiring Felton is a long-shot thou and I’m not holding my breathe on it.

Like I said, the NBA Draft creates many more rumors then it solves and this one is just an example of the many that will begin over the next few days. Check back here as we will be taking a look at numerous others as the off-season progresses.

Living in the New York area, you know there is always plenty to do around you. But here’s a list of some of your local events coming up.
