Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant had a huge game against the Philadelphia 76ers as he passed his former teammate and rival Shaquille O’Neal in scoring. Unfortunately for him his team lost the game. So being in the place of his birth he had to do two things, eat a cheesesteak and visit the strip club. Now that I think about it was he drowning sorrows or celebrating because that sounds like a good night to me.

First video of Kobe at Larry’s Steaks in Wynnefield.

And here’s the note from Philly.com about Kobe hanging out at Delilah’s after the game.

Kobe Bryant drowned his sorrows over his hometown loss to the Sixers Monday night at Delilah’s (100 Spring Garden). The newly-single Lower Merion raised Lakers superstar dropped by the gentleman’s club around 1 a.m. Tuesday with a few friends and was joined a little later by teammate Andrew Bynum who had just dined at Del Frisco’s (15th & Chestnut).

Philadelphia 76ers star Andre Iguodala had attempted and made an absolute ridiculous shot against the Los Angeles Lakers tonight. Iggy drove into the lane, spun around and threw up a shot with his back turned to the basket. That’s right a no look shot and it was good. Simply unbelievable take a look at.

Yesterday rumors were circulating that the Philadelphia 76ers were interested in adding New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire. It’s not far fetched either the current Knicks roster isn’t working well together and the Sixers could use some veteran star power to their young talented roster. Unfortunately for both sides yesterdays rumors were just that, rumors.

There had been some “reports” that the Sixers had inquired about New York Knick star Amare Stoudemire’s availability. When contacted yesterday, Sixers president of basketball operations Rod Thorn said: “Nothing going on at this time. I don’t know where that stuff came from.” (Bob Cooney – Philly.com)

So it was all just pure selection but I tell you what. I’m pretty sure the contacted the Knicks to see what they’ve got going on. Thorn would only be doing his job to call each team and see what players could be available.

Restricted free agent Thaddues Young met with the Denver Nuggets today and according to Ken Berger of CBS things went really well. He even tweets that another conversation is upcoming. I did say, restricted free agent, so his former team the Philadelphia 76ers will have a chance to match any offer he’s given.

@KBergCBS: “Good conversation” today between #Nuggets and RFA Thaddeus Young, and more conversations planned, source says.

If Young were too sign with the Nuggets he’d be the primary backup for Danilo Gallinari. Young averaged 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds averaging 26 minutes per game in 2010-11. He only started one game so all that production was off the bench, adding that kind of production to the Nuggets bench will only make them stronger.

The question is will the Sixers let that kind of production get away? It will probably depend on the offer. Team President Rod Thorn has said “As long as it’s reasonable, we’ll definitely match it. He’s a key guy for us. We need him. And we definitely want to have him back.” (Philadelphia Daily News) What they determine is reasonable will probably depend on how ready they think Evan Turner is for an increased role.

After an extended holiday break with minimal posts I figured it’s time to get back to work. To get it all going again I think its time to get back to the daily videos of the best NBA and NCAA dunks from the previous days games. Got five pretty good ones for you today.

First off, J.R. Smith of the Denver Nuggets had a beauty of a steal turned into a reverse dunk on the other end against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Don’t ya love it when a guy turns a steal into an amazing breakaway finish, none of those weak ass layups here.

During his collegiate days Emeka Okafor was known for his defense and shot blocking abilities, not many players would challenge him in the post. In the NBA, well Philadelphia 76ers center Samuel Dalembert had no problem challenging him last night dunking on Emeka the Rejecta.

Speaking of getting dunked on. Udonis Haslem of the Miami Heat was absolutely embarrassed last night by the Utah Jazz’s Carlos Boozer. This one might have to go into the dictionary next to the word posterized (once it officially makes it in to one). Not only did he get dunked on but Carlos hit him with a beautiful ball fake before running him over.

In my opinion one of the most exciting plays in the NBA is the alley-oop. I don’t mean the little weak ones where the ball is tossed up for an easy slam. I’m talking about the high flying above the rim kind. The slam on this next video from DeMar DeRozan wasn’t the greatest but what makes this my NBA play of the day is the dish from Hedo Turkoglu. The pass itself makes this a great alley-oop.

The dunk of the day thou didn’t even come from the ranks of the NBA. It came from the collegiate ranks and a small school down in Arkansas. Tavaris Washington of Arkansas Pine-Bluff completely jumped over an Alabama State player. A lot like Vince Carter over Frederic Weis, although this defender wasn’t nearly as tall.

So, Allen Iverson has signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. My thought big freaking deal, I could care less about the guy. He’s still better then half the league so it will be nice to see him get to continue on instead of retiring. But really, I could care less. There’s only one thing I like about this signing and that’s his wonderful press conferences.

Yesterday I had the chance to watch Allen Iverson’s reunion press conference and I couldn’t help but laugh throughout most of it. In the beginning it was well your normal interview till the water works came on and then you knew things would get good. His interviews always have some sort of drama involved and that’s why I’m excited to see him in Philly again.

If the team continues to struggle or the fans/media get on him for poor performance or ball hogging type play then the fireworks will be on! Watching yesterday’s press conference made me think of some other memorable AI interviews, and not just the infamous practice one.

First here’s yesterdays video.

Right after that AI did an interview with Vai Sikahema and John Clark of NBC10 in Philly. They asked him about practice and well umm…..

View more news videos at: http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/video.

Surprised ya there, didn’t think it would be funny huh? For those that think AI’s tears were genuine yesterday, I don’t know. He’s cried in interviews before and even at benefits.

Those tears thou aren’t nearly as good as when he gets angry and you know how can I post emotional Iverson videos without this one. WE GOT TO TALK ABOUT PRACTICE!

I’m sorry that still has to be one of the greatest press conferences of ALLLLL TIME! I will say I’m impressed with how he’s matured since that incident and can just laugh about it. Much like he did in that NBC10 video you just saw. He’s had other interviews where the issue came up and he reacted much the same. Take a look at the press conference that introduced him as a Detroit Piston.

One of my favorite more entertaining interviews of his thou is a very old one and its all about MJ. I can’t remember when this is, shit I actually didn’t even remember it till I came across it on You Tube yesterday. The video quality is pretty shitty on this one but the audio is good.

So yea, who in Philly can’t be excited about Iverson’s return? Most are for his basketball play but for people like me we just can’t wait to see what he’s going to do behind the mic. Will he be funny? Will he be angry? Will he let out all of that emotion again and start crying?

No one knows but I’m sure we’re going to get to see all of it over the next few months. It’s Philly it brings the best and worst of him out.

Things have gotten pretty bad for former Temple University star Dionte Christmas this week. On Wednesday he was released by the Philadelphia 76ers. The release wasn’t really a surprise as the Sixers are pretty deep at the guard position. He had some pretty good talent, a high motor and made a great impression on the coaching staff but he just got caught in the numbers game.

“He’s played out of position, playing forward instead of guard,” Sixers coach Eddie Jordan said recently. “We have so many guards right now and he should be at guard. I like him a lot. I loved him since summer league. He’s inquisitive about the league, about what I did (as a player) — that was a short story … He’s the type of guy that if you’re going to keep an extra guy, he’s the type of guy you keep.”

Unfortunately for him the Sixers couldn’t keep that extra guy.

What’s really unfortunate is what happened Thursday night with the youngster. A highway patrol officer spotted Dionte’s car driving very erratically, so he was naturally pulled over. First thought of course is ok, it must be a DUI nothing major, quite a bit of athletes have one. But it wasn’t the erratic driving or the fact that he didn’t have a drivers license that got him into the big trouble.

The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that Christmas was found with a loaded weapon in his car. Officers found a Hi-Point 9 MM Semi-Automatic hand gun loaded with seven rounds. The weapon was tucked away underneath the drivers seat and the driver was Dionte. He was expected to be charged with felony weapon charges during the night.

After all the positive things we’ve heard about this kid lately this is completely surprising. His former coach at Temple Fran Dunphy even said “His desire is critical to any success I hope he achieves in the NBA. He wants to be coached, he wants to learn, he wants to be part of the team. He realizes how much hard work he has to put in to attain his goal and he’s willing to do that.”

Unfortunately for the kid this could squash his chances at landing with another NBA team, at least in the near future.

Wait did I say unfortunately? Maybe he’ll learn that what he was doing was absolutely idiotic and that if you want to be a professional you can’t act like a thug off the street.

You’re not in college anymore, you’re not on the streets anymore, you’re attempting to be an NBA player. Grow the F UP !

Maybe all of this will wind up a good thing for the kid. If he can learn all of that, combine it with his desire and actions on the basketball court, AND escape major consequences in a court room then this could be a positive.

Now will all of that happen? Highly unlikely, he’s definitely going to be blacklisted for many NBA teams.

The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that the Portland Trail Blazers and point guard Andre Miller have a deal in place. A deal which should be finalized within the next 24 hours. ESPN.com is reporting that the deal is worth $21 million over three seasons, which completely dwarfs any other deal he’s been offered.

Miller’s former team the Sixers were rumored to be offering $6 million but for only one season. The New York Knicks, another team interested in his services, were also interested in just a one year deal.

So the Blazers talked with money and length, giving Miller no choice but to take the deal. ESPN.com says the first two years of the deal are guaranteed, with an option for a third year.

Miller is a clear winner in this as the Blazers went well above what he should of received. There are a few other winners in this deal thou, as well as a couple losers. Lets look at that aspect of this deal.

WINNER – Portland Trail Blazers

The Blazers have been looking to bring in some veteran experience all summer, especially at the point, and have been getting turned down left and right. They had the well publicized diss from Hedo Turkoglu. The Utah Jazz matched the teams offer to Paul Millsap. All while losing out in the Jason Kidd swepstakes.

Bringing Miller in gives them a much needed veteran point guard. He can provide a solid 35+ minutes a game and be a leader to the young kids on that team. With his size he gives the team another weapon on offense as he excels in the post-up, back your opponent down type of game that most point guards don’t.

“He’s got great savvy and leadership,” GM Kevin Pritchard said. “We like him as a player for sure.”

LOSER – Steve Blake

A big loser in this is last years starting point guard, Steve Blake. Blake’s minutes are going to take a huge cut next season. As a starter he only averaged in the lower end of 30 minutes per game, look for that to drop to upper teens, low twenties next season. Miller is the clear cut starter and its at the sacrifice of Blake.

Surprisingly Blake is bigger then Miller height wise but doesn’t play it. He’s more of an outside guy, while Miller likes to mix it up all over the court. Blake should still see plenty of action due to his ability to knock down the three, one area where Miller is not good at, at all.

But even with that, Blake’s stock takes a huge hit. What makes it worse? He’ll be in the final season of his contact as a backup. Not good for a guy who would like to strike it big in free agency next summer.

WINNER – Lou Williams

Lou has been a career backup in Philadelphia, never starting once during his 252 game tenure. He gets his chance now, a chance he’s been waiting for. He let the public know it was a long time coming too.

“It’s something I felt like I’ve been prepared for for a long time,” Williams told Comcast SportsNet. “Hopefully, the opportunity remains and I’ll take full advantage of it.”

Well Lou, the opportunity is here and it’s your time to shine. With Coach Eddie Jordan’s Princeton offense, Williams will be put in a position to succeed. As long as the team doesn’t go sign a veteran to back him up, he’ll get more then enough chances to prove he belongs in the starting lineup.

His game differs a lot from Miller, which isn’t a bad thing either.

“I’m not going to be perfect,” Williams said. “One thing I would ask people – just don’t expect Andre Miller out of me. I’m not that type of player. I use my scoring ability to create opportunities for other guys; he used his passing ability to create opportunities for other guys. Hopefully, people will stay open-minded.”

So get ready Sixer fans he’s definitely a change of pace, a scoring point guard.

UNCERTAIN – Philadelphia 76ers

I’m not sure whether or not to call this a win or loss for the Sixers. It literally could go either way. The team could either take off with Williams at the helm, or fall apart at the seams. We won’t have an idea till the season is a few weeks old.

The team does have a glaring need for an experienced guard now thou. Currently their only point guards are Williams and rookie Jrue Holiday. There was a rumor out there yesterday talking about Jamaal Tinsley who was just released by the Indiana Pacers and another about C.J. Watson. Both are possibilities but will either sign for just one season.

But yea, the Sixers stay undecided till the NBA season starts.

Today’s Philadelphia Daily News reports that Ty Lawson thinks the Philadelphia 76ers would be a good fit for him. It’s a nice thought for Philly fans, he’s a classic point guard that’s a proven winner. But will he drop that far?

The Daily News reports that Lawson’s stock is dropping mainly due to durability and size concerns. And because of that he could drop down to Philly at number 17. How far his stock has dropped or if its even dropped is pure speculation. Most NBA Mock Drafts have Lawson going anywhere from the New York Knicks at number 8 all the way to the 76ers at 17. Only ten spot differential but a huge difference when considering the talent of the teams in between.

For any team looking for a true point guard, Lawson is a perfect fit. He’s a leader on the floor who looks to get his teammates involved but has the ability to take the game over himself if need be. When it comes to the Sixers and Knicks he’d be a perfect fit for both.

Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni loves athletic guys who can push the ball and shoot. Hello, this sounds just like Lawson. He’s got the speed to play wide open and improving as a shooter. Last season he increased his three point shooting average from .361 to .472, in a year that the NCAA moved the arc back a foot.

The only question mark for New York would be his size, Lawson’s only 6 foot. The Knicks already have a pint sized guard in Nate Robinson, although he is a restricted free agent this off season. The other problem is the team is huge on Davidson shooting guard Stephen Curry, a player who wants to be a Knick.

“New York is the most ideal situation right now,” Curry said. “To play in the (Madison Square) Garden 41 games a season? That’s a legacy. How can you beat it?”

While New York is a fit, Philadelphia may be even more ideal. The Sixers have a strong need for a point guard as well. Andre Miller is a free agent who doesn’t have much left in his tank and Louis Williams looks like he’s going to be more of a scorer than a true point guard.

With all of that being said, Lawson could step right into the Sixers rotation and provide some valuable minutes. The player who would benefit the most would be Andre Iguodala. There were countless times last year that the Sixer guards could not get him the ball in favorable situations, with Lawson that shouldn’t be a problem. Just ask Tyler Hansbrough.

“Oh yeah, they play up and down; Elton Brand, East Coast, yeah, I’d love to play there,” Lawson said with a smile.

Will Lawson get his chance to play in Philly? We’ll find out on June 25th the night of the NBA Draft.

The thing that bugs me thou is how players are pretty much lobbying for certain teams. These guys aren’t free agents who cares where you would prefer to play. Show some respect for the guys who came before you. Play for the team that drafts you, earn some credibility then hit free agency and go to the city you want.
