The Texas Rangers are back to searching for starting pitcher after the unsettling news about Neftali Feliz. Feliz was attempting to convert from a closer to a starter and now has an elbow injury, what a shock right. Luckily for Feliz it’s just a sprained UCL not a torn one, so no surgery is required but he will be shut down for a while. The team isn’t counting on him till after the All-Star break which leads them to free agent Roy Oswalt.

General manager Jon Daniels said the Rangers will consider signing pitcher Roy Oswalt in the wake of Neftali Feliz’s elbow injury.

“Everything is on the table,” Daniels said Monday. (T.R. Sullivan – MLBlogs)

Oswalt reportedly wants to sign with someone soon. He recently threw for the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies but most importantly threw for the Rangers on Friday. With Texas now in need of a starter things could progress very quickly.

The Rangers will go with Scott Feldman as Neftali’s replacement on Wednesday, after that who knows. Feldman isn’t a guy you want starting long term so I like Oswalt’s chances here of finding a home.

Now if Dr. Andrews gives a negative report on Vance Worley’s elbow then Oswalt is going to have options himself.

Should Philadelphia fans start to worry? Young ace in the making Vance Worley visited with Dr. James Andrews today in Florida. Normally it’s not a good thing when pitchers visit him but the team is labeling this as a precautionary visit. Worley was initially diagnosed with a bone chip in his right elbow that will require surgery. The visit itself is because the team isn’t sure if it’s the reason for his inflammation.

Vance Worley requested a second opinion on his sore right elbow, so he saw noted orthopedist James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla., on Monday.

As reported in Monday’s Inquirer, Worley has a small bone chip in his right elbow.

“He has a small body embedded in the lining of his joint,” Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. “We don’t think it’s the reason why he had inflammation, but it’s possible. This is something that’s not very uncommon. But it could be the cause of some of the inflammation. We haven’t heard from Andrews.” (Matt Gelb – Philly.com)

If the bone chip is the reason for inflammation then things are all good. He’ll resume his throwing and be back with the team shortly. If Dr. Andrews says something different then who knows as of this post the team still hasn’t heard back from the doc.

The next few nights are going to be interesting at Citizens Bank Park as the Washington Nationals visit the Philadelphia Phillies. In case you forgot the last time these two teams met, Bryce Harper was intentionally hit by a pitch from Cole Hamels. A pitch that was meant to welcome him to the big leagues which Harper responded to by stealing home. That sequence probably made Phillies fans hate him more then they ever have and now has him wondering if he’ll get J.D. type Drew treatment.

So Harper wants boos from Philly fans just not the batteries. I’m quite sure he’ll get the boos, those boos might be the loudest we’ve heard up to this point in the season.

What impresses me is that someone batting only .244 with two homers in 78 at-bats can get that type of reaction. I guess that just goes with being the next big thing and having the ego where you really believe you are that.

There’s a report out there that Cole Hamels wants a seven year contract from the Philadelphia Phillies. This information comes from Howard Eskin of NBC Philadelphia. If this is indeed the case Phillies fans better enjoy the last starts in a Phillies uniform from Mr. Hamels.

@howardeskin: Just reported on Sports Final @NBCPhiladelphia that I’m told cole hamels agent has told Phillies they r looking for “7″ year deal.

The Phillies are known for not giving out long contracts to pitchers. We were all shocked when they gave Cliff Lee a five year deal so why should we expect them to give Cole seven years? He’s a damn good pitcher but you can’t expect the Phillies to go that length to appease the fans especially at the corresponding dollar figure, which should be around $20 million.

If the Phillies don’t intend to meet his demands it’s time to start seeing what teams like the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and others may be willing to give up via trade.

A trade is not what we want to see as fans but the bottom line is if the Phillies won’t give Cole seven years, someone will. So might as well get something in return especially if they don’t get themselves into contention soon.

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Cliff Lee has already missed two starts this season due to an oblique injury and is expected miss at least one more. David Murphy of the Philly Daily News comes to this conclusion because Lee has been throwing since the injury occurred and may not need much mound time to get ready.

The veteran lefthander has yet to throw a bullpen session since he suffered the injury two days after his third start of the season. Lee has been throwing off of flat ground throughout his time on the disabled list, which leaves the Phillies hopeful that he will not need much in the way of mound work before returning to the active roster.

“We’ll see,” pitching coach Rich Dubee said when asked if Lee could be ready to return five days from Friday( David Murphy – Philly Daily News)

I’m skeptical of Lee only missing one more start the reason is that he hasn’t thrown any bullpen sessions. The good thing for him though is that he has indeed been throwing so he’s been keeping his arm strength up.

So with that being the case I guess he could get away with only missing one more start. Especially when you consider that he’s a starting pitcher which means the second start he’d miss would be 10 days from now. That’s a long ways away and if she shows he’s ready say a day after what would be his next start then he’ll be back on the mound.

While the Phillies biggest need is to fix the offense the addition of Lee will be a huge boost as his replacement Kyle Kendrick is simply not getting the job done. What a surprise.

The Philadelphia Phillies honored one of the greatest athletes in the cities history tonight. Former Philadelphia Eagles safety Brian Dawkins threw out the first pitch before tonight’s game against the Chicago Cubs. Dawkins came out to the field wearing a Jimmy Rollins jersey and fittingly the pitch went B-Dawk to J-Roll. The crowd gave Weapon X one hell of a welcome.

Things for the Philadelphia Phillies just keep getting worse. There’s word now that outfielder Hunter Pence is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his injured left shoulder. Hunter injured the shoulder Sunday while diving for a ball, the injury caused him to miss Monday’s game.

@JSalisburyCSN: Phils announce Pence to have MRI on L shoulder today in PHX.

Even with an MRI the Phillies are reporting Pence as day-to-day which means this is just a precautionary matter. Hopefully everything comes back good and this truly was just a precaution.

In the meantime they’ll be going with John Mayberry Jr and Juan Pierre as their corner outfielders. Eewww.

I’ve lived in Philly for about 15 years and I’ve definitely learned to never doubt the love Philadelphia fans have towards their sports teams. Thanks to Buzz Feed I came across another article about a fan showing how crazy he is about the Philadelphia Phillies. This fan made himself a jersey from 3,000 drink tabs and it’s pretty impressive.

In my opinion, it looks more like he’s about to go fencing or jousting with a Phillies logo on his chest. But very impressive nonetheless. I do wonder how much fun him and his friends had drinking those 3,000 drinks.

It appears Chase Utley is starting to feel the same way as Philadelphia Phillies fans. The fans are want and are hoping he’ll be back on the field soon, especially with Ryan Howard on the shelf. Well good news is Chase also hopes to be on the field. Wait hopes to be on the field? Is that good?

s I wrote the last couple days, there has been very little information regarding Chase Utley‘s chronic right knee condition.

But Utley stopped briefly today to say this: “We’re making progress. I hope to be on the field next week.”

That’s all I’ve got, but that’s more than he has said since he last talked about his condition Feb. 23. Does being on the field mean he will be in a Grapefruit League game next week? Or does it mean he will start taking fielding practice? We will see next week, but maybe Utley will be ready by Opening Day, which the Phillies have maintained since the beginning of spring. (Todd Zolecki – The Zo Zone)

I’d say it’s a good thing. This is the first time we’ve heard Chase say anything about his knee situation. Only people we’ve heard from has been Charlie Manuel and Ruben Amaro Jr. So this is definitely a good sign, even if his quote is kind of cryptic.

I personally think the Phillies have just been holding him back in hopes that he can last the full season and told him to stay quiet while they do so.

Looks like the New York Yankees will be addressing their designated hitter situation sooner then later. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweeted this evening that the team is in serious talks with Raul Ibanez of the Philadelphia Phillies. If you remember just a few days ago I wrote about Joe Girardi’s desire for a hitter and how Ibanez would be the best option. So if this happens I’d be very pleased.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Yankees in serious discussions with Ibanez. He is willing to take less to play for them than he could get elsewhere.

What surprises me the most about this tweet is how Raul is willing to take less money to play for the Bombers. I guess he knows if he’s not in Philadelphia the team that gives him the best chance to win in 2012 is the Yankees. Especially when you consider he’s a perfect fit in that stadium with the short porch.

Only thing else I have to say is Brian Cashman – Git RRRRRR Done!
