End of the Rain Delay

June 11, 2008

Steve TrachselJust about two weeks ago, we talked about the possibilities of Steve Trachsel losing his roster spot with the Baltimore Orioles. Well as of last night, its official, Steve Trachsel is no longer a Baltimore Oriole. Trachsel was designated for assignment, so the team has 10 days to trade, release or outright him to the minors. Trachsel has no trade value and won’t accept a minor league assignment so expect him to be released very soon. Looking more into the situation thou, Trachsel’s career might be over, as well. No more of these Human Rain Delays

May 31, 2008

Steve TrachselIt looks like the days of the human rain delay are finally coming to an end. No I’m not talking about Major League Baseballs enforcement of the pace of game rules (hate to say it but I do agree with their position, but thats another story). I’m talking about Baltimore Orioles pitcher Steve Trachsel. Taking Steve out of the bigs, may lower MLB Game Time averages by 2 minutes all by himself. Due to consist struggles this year, actually not struggles just complete flat out horrible pitching, his next start is in doubt. He was already skipped in the rotation once, so his roster spot most likely will be in doubt now. Read more

Hawkins to be suspended

May 22, 2008

LaTroy HawkinsNew York Yankees pitcher LaTroy Hawkins is looking at a 3-game suspension for Tuesday nights incident. The NY Daily News reports that Major League Baseball, will be fining Hawkins $2000 in addition to the suspension. This is the second time this year that MLB will be suspending a Yankees pitcher for not hitting a player. Granted, even as a Yankees fan, I do agree with Hawkins suspension. Read more

White Sox interested in Figgins

May 21, 2008

Chone FigginsThe Chicago White Sox are looking everywhere right now for a lead-off hitting second baseman. The position on the field and in the lineup, might be this teams biggest need right now. Their lead-off hitter, Orlando Cabrera, is hitting a paltry .219. While their second baseman trio, Alexei Ramirez (.207), Juan Uribe (.198) and Pablo Ozuna (.243) are all not getting the job done. One obvious possibility is Baltimore Orioles’ Brian Roberts, but General Manger Kenny Williams isn’t willing to pay the price it would take to get him. So the most interesting candidate comes from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Chone Figgins. Read more

Bedard scratched from Sundays start

April 5, 2008

Seattle Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard has been scratched from his Sunday start with what the team is calling hip inflammation. This start was supposed to take place against his former team the Baltimore Orioles. I’m sure there will be some speculation that the team is protecting him from the media hype of facing his old team, but Bedard was looking forward to facing his former teammates. Bedard is going to be replaced by Felix Hernandez.

Carlos Silva will go on Monday and after that the team hopes he’ll be ready for Tuesday. If Bedard is unavailable then Cha-Seung Baek should get the nod. The Mariners, their fans and shoot the fantasy owners (i’m one of them) are hoping this is not a serious injury. This sounds like something that could be day-to-day or even better maybe it is just keeping him safe for the long haul by avoiding the O’s.

Giles no show in Vegas

April 1, 2008

After a whole off-season of talk about Marcus Giles becoming a Los Angeles Dodgers, it isn’t happening. Giles was recently released by the Colorado Rockies after refusing a minor league assignment. The Dodgers, who almost traded for him agreed to a minor league deal with the third baseman earlier today. The plan was for Giles to spend 10 days at AAA-Las Vegas to reacquaint himself with third base and get some more at-bats, then come up to the majors and split time with Rookie Blake DeWitt at third. So what happened?

Giles was in his car driving from his home in San Diego on his way to Las Vegas, when he changed his mind. He turned his car around and went home. He literally just decided I’m not going I don’t feel like it. Supposedly now he doesn’t have the desire to play anymore and might retire.

For the Dodgers, this is absolutely the worst case scenario for them. They’re already down 3 third baseman and passed up other options thinking Giles was a lock. Alex Cintron was one of interest that they could of had, but he signed with the Baltimore Orioles yesterday.

Orioles release Gibbons

March 30, 2008

No surpise here. Only surprise to me is that the Baltimore Orioles didn’t till Major League Baseball made a decision on the new drug rules. It was inevitable that Gibbons would be cut, the question was just when. Doing so before Opening Day means the Orioles do not have to carry him on their roster. Instead, the 25th man will be Scott Moore a much more useful guy off the bench.

The Orioles are stuck paying him the rest of his $11.9 million but this is a good move for them. Gibbons will most likely be forced to retire now. What team would actually want this guy on their team? He hasn’t hit the ball effectively in 2-years since baseball started drug testing and he’s always hurt. At least Baltimore did something right this off-season.
