Starting pitcher John Patterson, just released by the Washington Nationals, was signed to a minor league deal by the Texas Rangers. Patterson has already been assigned to the clubs Triple-A farm team, the Oklahoma RedHawks. "It's no-risk for a guy who has had success in the big leagues," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. In a surprise move today the Washington Nationals released starting pitcher John Patterson. It's a pretty shocking move as Patterson started Opening Day for the Nats last season and seemed to be the front runner for this years assignment. Patterson was experiencing a steep drop-off in his fastball so far in spring training. Thats just the sad state of their pitching staff, he was still the front runner. What's [+]

The Washington Nationals have a nice first baseman contest going on during training camp with Nick Johnson and Dmitri Young. Both players are very capable of starting, but yet neither can play a different position.
