Brett Gardner major league debut

Tonight was the long awaited debut of one of the New York Yankees top hitting prospects, Brett Gardner. Gardner is a speedy center fielder who challenged Melky Cabrera for the starting job back in spring training. He failed to win a job then, but after leading the International League with 34 stolen bases through today it was time to give the chance. Ok, it really wasn’t that but that helped him be the player selected to help replace Hideki Matsui and the aching Johnny Damon. Read more

Just one week after Houston Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon fought General Manager Ed Wade, we hear of another baseball player shoving team officials around. This time it was Boston Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez. Manny reportedly pushed the teams traveling secretary, Jack McCormick, to the ground in an argument over free tickets. Benson on the move

Despite the recent tailspin of the Philadelphia Phillies there could be some good news on the horizon. The long awaited appearance at Citizens Bank Park of Kris Benson is drawing closer. The right handed pitcher has been promoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley (Hey maybe the Iron Pigs will finally win a game). Benson has already had two rehab starts for Single-A Clearwater. According to FoxSports, Ken Rosenthal, the New York Mets have claimed first baseman Andy Phillips off waivers. Phillips was designated for assignment this past Sunday by the Cincinnati Reds. This move will surely leave many Mets fans scratching their heads, as it makes no sense whatsoever. Read more

Nicked Nat out for year

A surprise to no one, Washington Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson is now out for the remainder of the 2008 season. Johnson was initially out on the disabled list with a torn ligament in his wrist but only expected to miss 4 to 6 weeks. The injury was very similar to what Boston Red Sox’ David Ortiz is currently disabled with. Unfortunately for Nick, the injury has not healed and surgery was needed. The team is pretty confident thou that he’ll be ready for the 2009 season. Read more
Who starts for the Yankees?

There has been plenty of debate this week on who picks up the extra start for the New York Yankees. The extra start is part of a double-header this Friday against the New York Mets. There have been quite a few names mentioned for this start. They include Ian Kennedy, Alan Horne, Sidney Ponson, Kei Igawa, Alfredo Aceves and Jeff Karstens.
