Paul Molitor to interview with Twins

The Minnesota Twins have begun interviews for their vacant managerial position and today they’ll talk with former Milwaukee Brewers great Paul Molitor. Darren Wolfson of 1500-ESPN tweeted late last night that Molitor is actually the front runner for the position. Molitor has no managerial experience which scares a lot of people but it really shouldn’t.

Molitor was part of the Twins staff in 2014 so he did get some experience in an instructor role. His focus was on baserunning, bunting, in-game strategy, and infield instruction. All things that a good manager needs to have a good grasp on if he’s going to succeed.

I can understand the frustration of fans if Molitor is hired but he could be what the rebuilding Twins need. As the team grows over the next few years they’ll need a guy who can help continue to teach them, not just put the pieces in the right place to win.

Molitor isn’t the only person being considered for the role. Terry Steinbach was the teams bench coach in 2014 and will also be interviewing for the position.
