Wolves willing to extend Rubio

The Minnesota Timberwolves prepared to extend the contract of Ricky Rubio but are struggling to complete a deal. Reports say that the Wolves are willing to offer a four year deal worth $42 million but Rubio is taking his time. The two sides have till October 31st to come to agreement. If they don’t Rubio will become a restricted free agent after the season, something that is looking more likely.

So why wouldn’t Rubio to agree to a deal of that size? The answer is easy, it’s the abundance of money that will be on the market next summer. Teams like the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers will have plenty of cap space available which will make many players less likely to sign extensions.

I don’t blame Rubio for trying to capitalize and his skill set but he needs to think smart here. Like CBS Sports said there are numerous point guards, that at the moment, are hitting the market. Some of which that are better. Here’s the list: Rajon Rondo, Kemba Walker, Reggie Jackson, Patrick Beverley, Brandon Knight and Jeremy Lin.

At the same time the Wolves need to try and lock him up. If Rubio continues to improve offensively his contract demands will only rise.
