Eric Decker pays big for #87

A few weeks ago new, New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker joked that he and Jeff Cumberland would have to negotiate over the jersey number or he’d have to find both a new home and new number. Well today the New York Daily News learned that the two reached an agreement and luckily for Decker he’ll only have to pick a new home. The jersey didn’t come cheap either as Cumberland had become attached to the number he’s worn for four years now.

New Jets wide receiver Eric Decker may be a wealthy man, but his desire to keep his favorite jersey number didn’t come cheap. The Daily News has learned that Decker, who signed a 5-year, $36.25 million deal at the start of free agency, agreed to pay new teammate Jeff Cumberland $25,000 and pick up the tab for a steak dinner to get his No. 87 jersey. It’s a nice little payday for Cumberland, who’s base salary for 2014 is only $900,000. I hope he took advantage of Decker’s financial situation by choosing the most expensive steakhouse in New York City.
