Flacco – Ray Lewis should “know better”

One thing I hate is when a former NFL players blasts his former team not too long after leaving. After the incident with Jacoby Jones this weekend, former Baltimore Ravens star Ray Lewis did just that. He blasted the team and their leadership, saying they have none. What I do like is when a current player fires back and that’s exactly what Joe Flacco did but in subtle ways.

Responding to comments the former linebacker and current ESPN broadcaster made on Monday, Flacco said: “It is what it is. Ray knows better than that. Things happen. I think we’re usually a pretty good team with stuff like that. If you look around the league, there are probably a lot of leadership problems then. Like I said, Ray knows better.” (Baltimore Sun)

It got better though as Flacco fired off a little shot about Lewis being one of them now, them being the media.

“When you get the information of what happened, it is what it is,” Flacco said. “You laugh about it kind of. It’s funny, some of the things that we deal with. I don’t really have too many comments on it because they’d all be taken the wrong way and out of context. It’s not really an issue.”

Asked if it was funny because Lewis, who was just inducted in the Ravens Ring of Honor on Sunday, was the one who said it, Flacco said: “Ray is one of them for a couple of minutes a week now. It is what it is.” (Baltimore Sun)

While I think Lewis might have a point about the Ravens needing leaders after losing so many guys at once he should have kept his mouth shut. I think he used this incident to finally put himself out their as a credible media guy, something he couldn’t do till an issue arose with the Ravens.

I commend Flacco for how he handled the situation, he was going to get questioned over and over again about it so he had to answer it at some point. Answering it early and in a way like this did the job. He brought up a great point by saying every team has issues and that Lewis should know better because he’s been there himself when things happen.

I’m curious to see if Lewis fires back.

RAY LEWIS IS A PIECE OF CRAP. EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT. LOOK AT HIS TRACK RECORD IN LIFE. LOOKS LIKE HE NEEDS SOMEONE TO TELL HIM WHEN TO TALK AND WHEN TO KEEP HIS BIG MOUTH SHUT. HE SHOULD BE SO EMBARRESSED ABOUT HIS LIFE, HE NEEDS TO KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT ABOUT SOMETHING HE IS NO LONGER A PART OF. WHAT A LOSER!

Ray has a really big head right now. He didn’t get to the Super Bowl and win twice by himself and leadership only goes so far. You have to have a team of players who want something so bad they set aside anything and forge ahead. When Ray needs support he doesn’t stop short to ask for it (ie, his murder charge and Art Model). He came back to that team with helmet in hand and needed their support to move forward. Now he’s a talking head on TV and has forgotten where he came from. Sad.
