Payton says no truth to Ingram trade rumors
We’ve seen it time and time again, trade rumors start about a player and then coach denies it as hard as possible. That’s currently happening right now with the New Orleans Saints, head coach Sean Payton and running back Mark Ingram. Last night, Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports reported that Ingram could be one of the next big name draft picks traded. Payton denied all that by telling The Times-Picayune that the report is completely false.
New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton vehemently denied a report running back Mark Ingram is seeking a trade. Payton told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune on Sunday night that CBS Sports’ report Ingram could be seeking a trade was “completely false” and had “zero credibility.” (The Times-Picayune)
The idea of Ingram being traded though isn’t a bad one as the Saints are loaded at the running back position. They’ve currently got five of them on their roster and one of them doesn’t fit their scheme, that’s Mark Ingram. Ingram is a power back who thrives on getting touches and that’s not what the Saints need.
It would surprise some if the Saints already give up on their former first round draft pick but hey NFL teams are cutting ties quicker now. If they can find someone willing to give up a high pick or a comparable “bust” they’re willing to take a chance.
Even if the Saints are shopping Ingram I’m not shocked that Payton is denying it. No player likes to hear they’re on the block especially if they’re not getting playing time.
The real question isn’t if the Saints are shopping him, it’s what can they get in return?
