Wow what a difference two weeks makes. Not too long ago Felix Jones was on the Philadelphia Eagles roster bubble, likely to be cut when they were trimmed down. Somehow the Eagles found a trade partner in the Pittsburgh Steelers and now there are reports that he’s got a chance to start the teams season opener.
Jones is expected to start the season opener against Tennessee next Sunday after rushing for 56 yards on 14 carries Thursday against Carolina.
Kept were running backs Le’Veon Bell, who is expected to start after he returns from a mid-foot sprain, LaRod Stephens-Howling and Isaac Redman, plus fullback Will Johnson. Redman made the team despite a pinched nerve that limited him to two preseason carries. (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)
Alright I’m still a little skeptical about Jones starting but considering the injury problems that the Steelers are having right now I guess it could happen. Even if he does start he won’t get a large amount of carries as they’ll like go with a committee approach and see what the other guys can do.
Who knows maybe this will be his chance to finally live up to his first round draft pick status. Me though I think Redman will be the starter, if he’s healthy.
