Jon Bostic fined for “spectacular hit”

The NFL continues to make crazy decisions that make absolutely no sense. A week after calling Jon Bostic’s hit on San Diego wide receiver Mike Willie “spectacular” they decided to fine him $21,000. They’re reasoning was he lowered his head into the body of a defenseless player. The problem I have with the fine is that Willie ran about a yard and a half to two yards before he was even hit, so if he was defenseless that means he simply wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings.

With Bostic only being a rookie making $405,000, I’m sure he’ll appeal. Not just for the fact that it’s five percent of his annual salary but because it really was a clean hit. He’ll most likely also add the NFL’s media site itself called the hit spectacular in that appeal. I’m sure it will get knocked down to almost nothing if it even sticks.

One of his Chicago Bears teammates Lance Briggs also came to his defense by pretty much calling the fine bullshit.
