Dwyane Wade to opt out?

LeBron James isn’t the only player on the Miami Heat who can opt out of his contract after next season. Dwyane Wade also has the same provision included in his contract. Wade has publicly said he intends to stay in Miami after the season and who can blame him when he’ll be making $20 and $21.5 million each year. Even after saying that he left the door open that he could still opt out.

Though Dwyane Wade said he intends to stay with the Heat beyond next season, he did not rule out opting out of his contract. He would make $20 million in 2014-15 and $21.5 million in 2015-16 if he does not opt-out either preceding summer. It’s possible he could take less money in exchange for more years.

“We’ll see,” Wade, 31, said Friday of the opt-out. “You have to figure out what’s best for yourself and what’s best for the team and then you come up with that answer.” (Miami Herald)

While I don’t think Wade would opt out to find a better deal, I think he may do so to help the team. If you notice he said “you have to figure out what’s best for the team”.

Would Wade opt out for a longer deal at lesser money to help the team with their luxury tax problem? Would Wade opt out to free up some money for other players?

It does make some sense since Wade does love Miami. Will be interesting if he does this for the team.
