Elliot Coffey – Enterprise rental to the Texans

Every year we hear stories about a player getting signed to the NFL after working an odd job, prime example being Kurt Warner who was working as a bagger at a grocery store. Well today we hear of another and that’s Elliot Coffey. Coffey was working at Enterprise Auto Rental when he got a phone call from the Houston Texans.

When the Texans called about Coffey, a Sugar Land native who starred at Baylor and went undrafted last year, he was detailing cars at Enterprise Auto Rental – a job he had for the last three weeks.

“I was in the back fixing up a car and getting ready for a customer,” Coffey said. “I was cleaning the car with a scrubber and a bucket of water and a hose. That’s what I was doing when my pocket (cell phone) started vibrating.

“I was like, ‘Guys, thank you for this opportunity, but I’ve got to go work out.’ It was pretty quick.

“It’s good to be back in the game, especially being in my hometown. I grew up a Texans fan. It means the world to me to throw on this jersey and to say Bulls on Parade is my crew.” (Houston Chronicle)

Coffey graduated from Baylor in 2011 after posting 116 tackles and two interceptions he went undrafted. The Denver Broncos gave him a chance as an undrafted free agent but things didn’t work out. His hometown Texans are now giving him the latest chance.

I’m sure he’s just another camp body but he is a second generation NFL player, his father was Ken Coffey who played for the Washington Redskins. Hopefully things work out for him.
