The San Francisco Giants get one of their starting pitchers back Friday as they plan on activating Ryan Vogelsong from the disabled list. Vogelsong has been out of the rotation for about two and a half months after fracturing his right pinky. When he got hurt he had a 2-4 record with a 7.19 ERA over nine starts, easily shaping up as the worst season of his career. Over four minor league starts he had a 1.72 ERA between Single and Double A.
Ryan Vogelsong convinced the Giants he’s ready to return, so the right-hander will come off the disabled list and rejoin the rotation Friday against the Baltimore Orioles.
“Could we start him again (in the minors)? Yeah, we could maybe take him up to 95, 100 pitches,” Bochy said before Monday’s homestand opener against Milwaukee. “But we think he’s ready and he thinks he’s ready, which is the most important thing. And Vogey, he’s one of those guys we trust. He’s honest with the club and thinks he’s good to go.” (CSN Bay Area)
I’m not sure if the 36 year old has anything left in him but I guess we’ll see. At 12 games back in the National League West I’d think it’d be best for the Giants to give some kids a chance.
