Two Rockies minor league pitchers arrested for rape
Two minor league pitchers for the Colorado Rockies were arrested Thursday and charged with two counts each of first-degree rape and first-degree sex offense. Michael Ryan Mason and Jesse Maxson Meaux were both pitchers for the minor league affiliate, Asheville Tourists. Both players have been suspended and one remains in jail as his bail has been yet to be paid.
A judge this morning told two Asheville Tourists baseball players charged with raping a woman in their apartment that they could face life in prison without parole.
Judge Calvin Hill agreed with a prosecution request that the defendants be required to remain in Buncombe County pending further court orders. Both men told the judge they have hired attorneys.
The alleged offenses involved one woman and happened in the early morning hours on Saturday at the players’ apartment on Ascot Point Circle, according to a police incident report and arrest warrants. (Asheville Citizens-Times)
With them being held in Buncombe County pending orders it sounds like its pretty freaking serious and there is overwhelming evidence. So with that being said I think these kids professional baseball playing days are over.
Here’s the Colorado Rockies statement
“The Colorado Rockies and their affiliate, the Asheville Tourists, are aware of the arrests and the very serious allegations made against two players, Michael Mason and Jesse Meaux,” the statement said. “Each organization is shocked and deeply concerned about the allegations. At this time, the players have been suspended as the investigation and legal process continue.
“We are working with the authorities investigating the circumstances and issues surrounding the events and are awaiting further details and findings. Given that this is an ongoing legal investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment or speculate any further.”(Asheville Citizens-Times)
