Jake Peavy – Dont count the Red Sox out

Yesterday there were many reports that the Oakland Athletics were the front runners for Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy. Other reports said the Texas Rangers were a close second and many other teams were also showing interest. Yahoo’s Jeff Passan said today not to count out the Boston Red Sox. Remember they also were one of the teams who were present at his start Thursday.

The Red Sox definitely have the prospects but what’s kept them from being a major player on the trade market is motivation. They have some but they haven’t felt that they HAVE to make a move yet.

The injury to Clay Buchholz is the reason the team has kept their feet in the water. The possible return of Buchholz is why the team hasn’t jumped into the water head first.

Clay threw off of flat ground on Saturday and there were no apparent setbacks. At this point in the season, he’d probably need a few more bullpen sessions and a couple rehab appearances which would put him on pace for a late August return.

I don’t think the Sox are major players for Peavy but things could change quickly if they feel motivated.
