The St. Louis Rams have a lot of linebackers on their roster but continue to look for more. The reason? They’re all kids, they’d like a veteran linebacker on the bench which has led them to Will Witherspoon. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the team is expected to sign Witherspoon before training camp begins next week.
They are expected to sign a linebacker before the first full-squad practice July 25, and former Ram Will Witherspoon is the favorite to join the team. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
Witherspoon is no where near the player he once was as he only had 48 tackles and one sack in 2012, a far cry from his previous stints in St. Louis. Those previous stints and the time he spent under Jeff Fisher in Tennessee is most likely why Will beat out the other linebackers the team was looking at.
The Rams brought Will, Takeo Spikes and Chris Gocong in for visits back in June. Some thought the Rams might have been Gocong’s new home as he reportedly received an offer yesterday. So that guessing game will continue on to where Gocong is heading.
Witherspoon should be a solid backup behind Alec Ogletree, James Laurinaitis and Jo-Lonn Dunbar, while being a good tutor in camp for the five rookie linebackers on the roster.
