Drummond excited for Team USA camp

Detroit Pistons big man Andre Drummond is having one busy summer. Drummond just finished up a stint with the Pistons summer league team and now he’s off to another camp. Drummond will be participating in the Team USA mini-camp from July 22nd to 25th and he can’t wait to get started. He’s out to prove something, to prove that he belongs on the Team USA roster in 2016.

Drummond, asked if he is trying to position himself to make the men’s national team in time for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, said he is thinking in a more accelerated time frame.

“It ain’t no long term, I’m trying to make it now,” Drummond said. “I’m not going there for fun. I’m going there to try to take somebody’s spot. I wouldn’t use this as just a workout. I’m going there to play as hard as I can.” (MLive)

I love the attitude Drummond is bringing to that camp. Even if he doesn’t make the team he’ll be a huge asset because they’ve got a guy in there willing to work his ass off and help make the overall unit better. And you know what I wouldn’t put it past him, if he follows up what he did in the watered down summer league he might just have a chance.

This isn’t his first go around with Team USA either. He played on the U-16 and U-17 teams in 2009 & 2010 that won World Championships.

“I’m really excited to go,” Drummond said. “Being chosen to be on the U.S. team again — I played with them while I was in high school, too — so being chosen to be there again, and (that) they kept a connection with me, is really good.” (MLive)
