Interest growing in Charles Woodson

Much like Brian Urlacher the market for former Green Bay Packers defensive back Charles Woodson has been exceptionally cold. Since his visit with the San Francisco 49ers in March there hasn’t been any mentions of him, anywhere. That changed today in a big way with multiple teams showing interest. They include the Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders and the Carolina Panthers.

So as you see today’s been a busy day for Woodson. If I had to put money down I’d say the Panthers are a huge long shot and this will come down to the Raiders and Broncos.

The Broncos present Charles with the best opportunity to win now. Winning now is something he initially said he wanted to do as his career is winding down. Denver’s definitely in that position.

The Raiders are more of a sentimental favorite as that’s where he started his career and spent seven seasons. They are a rebuilding project and he has stated that he would consider one if it’s what he had to do. The Raiders would also give him more of an opportunity would play.

So who wins out? The team he started with or the one giving him a chance to win? Based on the following quote I’d say if the Raiders want him they’ll have to overpay some.

“When this process first started out, that was my thing, I needed to go to a contender,” Woodson said May, 9th on NFL Network. “I know I am towards the end of my career. At this point, I want to play football. So if it is a rebuilding stage, at this point if that is the circumstances I have to play under, then that is what I am going to do.”
