Drummond to work with The Dream

Detroit Pistons rookie Andre Drummond is the latest in the long line of big men to work with former Houston Rockets great Hakeem Olajuwon. Working with The Dream in the off season has become the new fad and has proved successful for some and not for others. For a young guy like Andre, who’s not even 20 yet, the tutoring could be monumental.

The Hall of Fame center, one of the game’s all-time great offensive players, is expected to work with the Pistons’ center-forward over the summer to help him with his offensive game, which is still in the infant stages.

Drummond has been at the practice facility recently. He took about a two-week break, according to Pistons.com, before getting back into the gym to work on his game.

“I’m really excited for next season,” Drummond said recently. (Detroit Free Press)

Drummond had a good rookie campaign finishing fourth in rookie of the year voting. He averaged 7.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game over 20:41 minutes. The most impressive thing is down the stretch, the final ten games, he became a starter and averaged 11.1 points and 8.2 rebounds over 25:41 minutes.

I love the commitment that the young guy is showing to improve his game this off season. As a former UCONN fan I’ve seen this guy play a number of times in college and it’s true this guy needs a lot of help offensively. He’s got so much talent and just needs someone to help bring it out. It’s the reason I felt he needed more time in college but hey kids need to pay their families bills.
