Brooklyn after which Van Gundy?

After parting ways with P.J. Carlesimo the Brooklyn Nets head coaching position is the hottest job on the market. The team has already reached out to Phil Jackson but we know that’s not going to happen. It’s safe to say the Nets are going to go for a big name on this one.

Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel and Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix talked about the position and Stan Van Gundy on the Open Mike show. You’d be pretty surprised to hear what Mannix had to say.

“I’ve spoken to sources who’ve told me … Stan Van Gundy is not a candidate,” Mannix said on our Open Mike radio show. “It’s possible that Jeff Van Gundy could get a call, but from what I understand Stan Van Gundy is not a top candidate for that job.” (Mike Bianchi – Orlando Sentinel)

I was very surprised to hear Jeff’s name mentioned. I thought teams have finally given up on trying to get him to coach but it makes sense for Brooklyn. They’ve been all about the backpage of the New York Tabloids and headlining ESPN with their moves. Luring Jeff back to the Big Apple would definitely make them top billing for a while.
