Woodson – Lay off Melo

New Yorks Knicks head coach Mike Woodson is already tired of the bashing Carmelo Anthony is receiving. Melo is the main reason the Knicks are where they are today but after his recent struggles he’s been catching a lot of heat. So much heat that Woodson is standing up for his star and even said he “shouldn’t get criticized.” And I completely agree with that.

“Melo’s had a hell of a season,” Woodson said. “He’s struggling a little bit. But we’re right in the thick of things. We’re still in the hunt. That’s all you can ask for. We had a chance the other night. Even as bad as we played we had our chances coming down the stretch to probably cut it to three. We got to give them credit because they did what they needed to do to come in here and get a game. Now our backs are against the wall and we got to see what we’re made of.” (NY Daily News)

Carmelo went 10 for 28 in Game 1 against the Indiana Pacers and has only made 35 of his last 110 shots. Those aren’t good numbers at all but isn’t this what Knicks fan have had all year long, a streaky jump shooting team? That’s how they were built and that’s what they are.

The good thing is they’re just one game down, it’s 1-0 in a best of seven series. Melo and company have plenty of time to right the ship and if they enter another hot streak then everyone will forget these struggles. I for one won’t bash Melo, he’s done all he can to get the team where it is. He can’t help that no matter how good they’ve played that they were still built with flaws.
