Knicks consider Kenyon Martin

With Rasheed Wallace still on the shelf the New York Knicks have begun to scour free agency for a backup big man, who can shoot from anywhere. That search has brought them to one Kenyon Martin, who according to a Yahoo Sports report is considering a 10 day contract with the team.

Martin has been open-minded about the possibility of accepting a 10-day contract to get the opportunity to prove his value to the Knicks, sources said. (Yahoo Sports)

What the Knicks are trying to decide before they make this move is how severe Wallace’s injury is. He’s already missed 12 games and is now classified as out indefinitely. Is this going to be short term or will they need someone like Kenyon that can provide a seasons worth of help.

Personally, I like the idea of the 10-day contract. It will help the Knicks while they wait and see how Rasheed’s foot responds to more treatment. It will also allow the team to get a good scouting report on Martin and decide if he’s still able to help them.
