Britt on a “pitch count”

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt still isn’t sure if he’ll be able to play in Week One but if he does he will be severely limited. Britt and the team are still waiting to hear back about a suspension pertaining to his DUI arrest but it’s starting to look like he’ll be able to play. The only problem is he’s still recovering from multiple off season knee surgeries.

“He played an awful lot of plays last year in that Jacksonville game if I recall correctly,” Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer said. “But we have to be smart about it and make sure we have to take care of the player.”

Titans coach Mike Munchak estimated earlier in training camp that Britt might see 12-15 snaps if eligible for the opener, a total that represents about 20 percent of a team’s average offensive plays.

“We have to be careful,” Palmer said. “The other guys have been practicing for six weeks and they’re at a game speed and a tempo that is going to take Kenny a little bit of time to catch up to. So I think he’ll be on a pitch count on how many plays he can play until we feel comfortable he’s ready for a full game.” (The Tennessean)

Some Titans fans will actually look back at the season opener against Jacksonville last season as proof that Britt can step on the field and contribute right away. But is that wise? He did wind up only playing in three games in 2011, could the rush to the field be part of the reason?

Who knows but in my opinion it’s a good decision to be patient. With how much talent this guy has it’s best to treat him with kid gloves early.

I do find it funny though how they called it a pitch count.
