Cristiano Ronaldo playing stateside?

Yes, I know Real Madrid is in the States right now which means Cristiano Ronaldo will be playing on American soil, but that’s not what I’m talking about. There’s a real chance that Ronaldo himself can be playing in America, for a Major League Soccer team one day.

Ronaldo told reporters, “Coming here, to do the pre-season, for me is great because this country is brilliant. The mentality of the people, the conditions, we are in the right place. The soccer here is good, but it can be better. If I can help it to be better, soccer here, I can help. I think they are great; they are in a good way. I hope to come here to play one day” (UK Daily Mail)

Some will think that’s a huge compliment from Ronaldo. They’ll think he’s saying the MLS is close to a level where international players want to come here and show their skills but I don’t think so. I think this shows that yes, the MLS has come a long way but still has a long way to go.

He says he hopes to come here to play one day, you know when that day is right? It’s the day that teams like Real Madrid don’t need his services anymore. Much like David Beckham once a team doubts that he’s got what it takes anymore he’ll get transferred over.

In my opinion, MLS won’t have fully arrived till a player like a Ronaldo says I want to go to America and play now, in his PRIME. Once that happens then MLB would have joined the big leagues.

No matter when Ronaldo heads stateside there is one thing for sure and that is American woman will go absolutely nuts.
