Eagles won’t increase ticket prices

In a move I consider surprising the Philadelphia Eagles will not be increasing ticket prices for the 2012 NFL season. The reason I find this surprising is that the team only ranks 20th out of 32 teams on average ticket prices (not including premium luxury seats) and have a season ticket waiting list of 40,000 fans. Being ranked that low and having a waiting list that long then they could easily do so without suffering backlash.

“This is something we’re thrilled to be able to do,” said Banner, who said this is the fourth year in a row prices have been stable. “There aren’t many teams who are selling out their stadiums and have a waiting list of more than 40,000 who are doing that. In fact, I would say there aren’t any teams like that who haven’t raised prices for four years.” (Joe Banner – Philly Daily News)

He’s right in that aspect most teams with a waiting list like that wouldn’t keep prices stable for that long. It just doesn’t make business sense to turn down more money.

With the Eagles dismal 2011 season though there was no way they could increase prices. If they did that they would have had a public relations nightmare but you know what? They still would have sold out. Banner even admitted the teams performance had something to do with it.

“Everything is affected by how the season goes,” Banner acknowledged. “But we’re happy, in these tough economic times, to be able to do this. We’re trying to be as reasonable as we can.”(Joe Banner – Philly Daily News)
