Looks like Josh McDaniels could be heading back to the organization that helped him get his first head coaching job. Late this afternoon, the St. Louis Rams granted the New England Patriots permission to interview the offensive coordinator. According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch this could be a sign that Jeff Fisher is set to become the teams head coach.
Late Friday afternoon, the St. Louis Rams granted permission to the New England Patriots to interview offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Could that be a sign that Jeff Fisher is headed to St. Louis as the next Rams football coach?
McDaniels still had a year left on his Rams contract once head coach Steve Spagnuolo is fired. From a St. Louis standpoint it made sense to keep McDaniels around until a new head coach is hired _ just in case the coach wanted to work with McDaniels.
But league sources close to Fisher have said that Fisher almost certainly wouldn’t retain McDaniels if he took the Rams’ job _ their offensive philosophies are too different. (Jim Thomas – STLToday.com)
The Patriots have an opening for their offensive coordinator after Bill O’Brien took the head coaching job at Penn State. I’m sure Bill Belichick would love the chance to bring back a former coordinator, someone that he knows and someone that knows what he expects.
