Phillies Make Madson Priority

It looks like the Philadelphia Phillies are doing something a lot of their phans thought they wouldn’t, they’re making an aggressive push to resign closer Ryan Madson. At least that’s according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.

@jaysonst: #Phillies are making “strong push” to re-sign Ryan Madson. More to come in ESPN.com Rumor Central

Personally, I’m not surprised. Madson proved himself to be one of the best closers in baseball last season, notching 32 saves and only blowing two while not even being the teams full-time closer all year.

Some phans argue they should let him walk and go for someone cheaper as he’s going to demand a nice pay raise. I say bullshit. Ryan proved himself to be a top closer and for a team that has top level talent, arguably the best team in the league, needs a top closer. Not someone cheaper.

They’d be very smart to make this push instead of going after has beens that would take less then $10 million. If the Phillies want to stay among the big boys it’s time to keep spending like a big boy.

Can’t wait to see what the more info about this is.
