Yankees Present CC An Offer

The New York Yankees are doing all they can to get their ace, C.C. Sabathia, to sign a deal before his opt-out deadline on Monday. ESPN New York is reporting that the Yankees have indeed present Sabathia with an offer and that they’re just waiting to hear back. It’s an offer they also consider to be very fair, funny doesn’t every team say that?

According to a New York Yankees executive, the terms of a renegotiated deal for pitcher CC Sabathia were transmitted to his representatives over the weekend, but the team has yet to receive a response.
“We believe it is a very fair offer,” the executive said. “But we haven’t heard anything back yet.” (ESPN New York)

I’m actually not surprised they haven’t heard back. Everyone in baseball thinks he’ll be back with the pinstripes but wouldn’t be in his best interest to at least take a day or so to see if teams make a serious offer? Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman tweets that he’ll do just that.

@SI_JonHeyman: Cc sabathia is planning to opt out of his yankees contract by the monday night deadline, making him a free agent

To the Yankees fans I wouldn’t sweat them not hearing anything back yet. It’s just the part of doing business, even Brian Cashman hasn’t responded to the deal that he’s been offered and we all know he’ll be back.

I believe Sabathia will be back in Yankee pinstripes by next weekend on a contract similar to his current one. Reports say he wants six years for slightly over $150 million, his current deal was seven years for a little over $160. It’s something the Yankees can definitely afford so look for something like his old deal just slightly shorter.

If he opst out, let him go. He was not that good this year, and no other team can afford to match the yanks. Greed could be his downfall.
