Marte No Longer A Yankee

This is no surprise to any fan of the New York Yankees but the team has decided to decline the option on pitcher Damarso Marte. The Yankees held a $4 million option for the 2012 season but obviously declined as he didn’t even step foot on a mound in 2011. For declining the option the Yankees will have to pay him $250,000.

@AnthonyMcCarron: Yanks are declining Marte’s option

Marte was horrendous in his time with the Yankees going 2-6 with a 6.02 ERA over 76 appearances. Even so, he will hold a place in the hearts of us Yankee fans for his performance in the 2009 World Series when he fanned Chase Utley and Ryan Howard in the Game Six winner.

Now that Marte is no longer with the team the Yankees have nothing to show for that 2008 trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The trade that brought Marte and Xavier Nady for Jose Tabata, Dan McCutchen, Jeff Karstens and Ross Ohlendorf. Two of which (Tabata and Karstes) have become solid players. At least they got a World Series win out of it.
