The Baltimore Ravens did what some thought they couldn’t and extended the contract of Pro-Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. If the Ravens didn’t complete this deal by today’s deadline they would have had to wait till the next league year to offer a contract due to franchise tag rules. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was one of those who thought it wouldn’t happen. But it did and it’s a BIGGGG five-year contract. Here are the details courtesy of Aaron Wilson.
So what does this tell us? It says that if you didn’t already know how good Haloti Ngata is well he’s THAT DAMN GOOD! The Ravens don’t just throw around this kind of money, shit no one just throws around this kind of money at an interior defensive lineman.
Prior to this season Ngata had 12.5 sacks, 247 tackles, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and 14 passes deflected over five years. Yep, you read that right a 6-4, 330 pound defensive tackle had 14 passes deflected over that span.
So far in 2011, Ngata has 10 tackles, a forced fumble and two more pass deflections in just two games. He’s off to a quick start I’d say.
He’s definitely proven to be one of the best defensive players in football and his agent got him treated like it.
Congrats on the deal Haloti just don’t let it go to your head and slack off. Something tells me that we don’t have to worry about that as he’s part of that always hungry Ravens defense.
