The Dallas Cowboys wide receivers corps has been decimated by injury so they turned to a player they released just a week ago, Laurent Robinson, to help out. Robinson won’t be counted on for major action, he’s being brought in as insurance in case there is any more injuries.
Robinson rejoins the team a week after he was released and 13 days after originally signing with the Cowboys. Robinson is expected to buttress a depleted receiver corps. On Sunday, Miles Austin re-aggravated a left-hamstring strain and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he’s “probably negative” about Austin’s chances to play Monday. Meanwhile, Dez Bryant is still recovering from a thigh contusion that caused him to miss Sunday’s game. (Dallas News)
As you can see the Cowboys are pretty banged up and it’s all at the starting position. Bryant is expected to start this week but anything can happen with such an injury. Kevin Ogletree is expected to fill in for Austin, so yeah you can see why the help is needed.
This is Robinson’s fifth year in the league, he’s previously played for the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks. Over those four seasons he caught a total of 89 balls for an even 1,000 yards and four touchdowns.
To make room for Laurent the Cowboys had to release cornerback Bryan McCann, whose claim to fame was a 101-yard interception return against the New York Giants. Expect him to be back with the team once the receiver unit is whole again.
