Oswalt Expected Back By Tuesday

Earlier today many Philadelphia Phillies fans hearts dropped when they heard pitcher Roy Oswalt had left the team due to personal reasons. What didn’t help was that this follows a game in which Roy was pulled after just three innings of work. Many for some reason are thinking the two are tied together but they aren’t and the departure wasn’t due to injury either. At least that’s according to CSNPhilly’s Jim Salisbury who reports that General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr said he’s fine and expected to be back by his next start.

“He’s not hurt,” Amaro said.

Amaro went on to say that Oswalt’s back was “fine.”

Oswalt is scheduled to start on Tuesday. Amaro was vague when asked if he expected Oswalt to make that start.

“We expect him to be back,” he said. (CSN Philly)

If that truly is the case then that’s great news for Philadelphia fans. With how poor their offense has been this year they need as much good pitching as they could get. That’s something that Oswalt didn’t provide last night but he has had a pretty damn good season so far.

Some question injury as his back’s been bothering him lately but I honestly think it was his personal issues that were bothering him.

BREAKING AS WRITING THIS: PHILLIES ISSUE STATEMENT REGARDING OSWALT

“There has been a tremendous amount of tornado activity near Roy’s home in Mississippi resulting in several tragic deaths and significant devastation to the area. Because of this, Roy is concerned about his family’s well-being. He has chosen to take time to make sure there wasn’t significant damage to his home, but more importantly, to make certain that his wife and children are okay.”

With that being the case I could see why he had a poor outing yesterday. His mind is with the family and you have to applaud the organization for letting him leave to make sure everything is alright.

After reading that statement, I’m 100% certain now he’ll be back Tuesday. No point in continuing this with more speculation.
