Latest Knicks And Carmelo Rumors

The rumors are still running wild about a potential Carmelo Anthony trade between the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggest. Those rumors are getting even crazier when you see the latest report from Marc Berman at the New York Post. Berman suggests that a deal could could include players such as Raymond Felton and Chauncey Billups.

Recent rumblings have the Nuggets interested in Knicks point guard Raymond Felton being added to the Carmelo Anthony package, with the Knicks taking back aging Chauncey Billups.

That’s definitely crazy isn’t it? I don’t see any way that this could happen. The Knicks really want Carmelo on the team but this could seriously damage the team and its chemistry.

Berman lists some good reasons why this won’t happen and I agree with them all.

  • Billups at his age isn’t a fit for Mike D’Antoni’s system.
  • Felton and Amar’e Stoudemire have a great connection and have made each other better.
  • Knicks could release Billups after the season and use the money elsewhere.
  • Releasing Billips and dealing Felton, means the Knicks have no legitimate point guard for D’Antoni’s system.

Berman says that Billups agent, Andy Miller, says that he would “eat up the Big Apple.”

It would be a great move for Billups and the Nuggets, but would totally screw the Knicks. Billups would be a downgrade from Felton and could set the Knicks back offensively for a couple years while they wait for Chris Paul to hit free agency.

I doubt a trade of this kind happens, so I’d say back to the drawing board fellas. I’m starting to wonder if the Nuggets will even deal Anthony.

Now to other trade rumors.

Anthony Randolph has been included in these rumors from the start, most having him go to the Minnesota Timberwolves. CBS Sports reports that the T’Wolves believe they’ll acquire Randolph no matter what happens between the Knicks and Nuggets.

Privately, Minnesota officials believe they will acquire Randolph before the All-Star break, but believe it will more likely be as part of a straight-up deal with New York in which Minnesota gives up a late first-round pick, takes on Roger Mason, and then waives him.

Now out of today’s rumors this one I buy. Donnie Walsh has said from the beginning that he would acquire another draft pick for the teams use. Now, if the Knicks were to make any deals around Draft Day they’ll need another first round pick, especially if a sign-and-trade for Anthony is on the table.

Randolph is one of the few players on this team that could lead to a first rounder, if the team has no intentions of using him then they need to move him. Randolph’s trade value is somewhat high even without the playing time, isn’t potential a beautiful thing? I could definitely see the Knicks moving him before the deadline, they just have to figure out what’s happening with Carmelo first.
