Will Pettitte Settle?

So this week it seems like people are back to thinking that Andy Pettitte will indeed resign with the New York Yankees. Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York gives four reasons why, all of the usual ones. The question all along thou is how much money will it take to get him to play.

A report from Sports Illustrated has the Yankees offering Andy a $12 million deal for one season, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports thinks that won’t be nearly enough. The reason being Hiroki Kuroda of the Los Angeles Dodgers who signed for that same amount back in November. Ken shows that the numbers between the two pitchers aren’t that different but also points out that the two pitchers are totally different.

Which I agree. Kuroda isn’t even in Pettitte’s league, not even close! Hiroki is solid but he’s no where near as accomplished as Andy and hasn’t enjoyed the same postseason success. Andy definitely deserves more money. That very point in itself, which I’m sure Andy’s agents will use, could actually cost the Yankees the pitcher.

The Yankees reported offer will only be $12 million and if they decide to negotiate with him like they did Derek Jeter, then they run the risk of losing him. Andy’s really on the fence on whether or not to play again and if the Yankees push him they could push him towards retirement.

So on that note, I have to say Brian Cashman, Hank and Hal Steinbrenner, please play fair. The team is in need of the rotational help and we fans can’t have your hard heads screwing this up!
