The New York Mets are expecting starter Johan Santana to be out till June, unfortunately for them it’s starting to look like he’ll be out even longer. The lefty underwent surgery for a torn anterior capsule in his throwing shoulder and was just recently cleared to start a throwing program. According to Mets general manager Sandy Alderson that hasn’t happened yet.
Now don’t get me wrong the Mets aren’t going to be contending for anything in 2011 so this won’t be a blow to their season. What it could be is a blow to late season ticket sales as fans will pay to see a healthy Johan Santana pitch, especially if its against another ace.
What does worry me is there something wrong with Santana’s shoulder still? Or is it just a mental block that he doesn’t feel like he’s ready to throw yet?
