Feliciano Drawing Big Interest

According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, Pedro Feliciano is still drawing interests from some of the top teams in baseball. It’s no surprise as he was one of the better lefty relievers in baseball last season and no contender can ever have enough of those.

@jonmorosi: Pedro Feliciano drawing interest from #Yankees #RedSox #Phillies. Very curious to see who next setup type to sign will be. #MLB #NY #Boston

First, I’m not even really going to talk about the Phillies. It’s not that I don’t think they’re a serious option for Pedro, it’s just because I’ve talked about their interest before. Feliciano would be a great addition to their pen and would easily replace J.C. Romero, for more on my thoughts view this article, Two Lefties Top Phillies Interest.

The other teams Morosi mention, Boston and New York are of no surprise. Every year both of these teams are mentioned with the top lefty relief pitchers.

  • Boston – There interest makes perfect sense, the Yankees have one of the best, if not the best lefty bats in baseball, Robinson Cano and an improving Curtis Granderson. Not to mention they have quite a bit of switch hitters in their lineup. With the short porch at Yankee Stadium and the Pesky Pole in Boston, it makes sense to turn those switch hitters around to the right.
  • New York – The Yankees had no lefty relief pitcher to rely on last postseason, sorry Boone Logan is not someone you rely on. Isn’t it time they added one? The need is even more relevant now after Boston signed Adrian Gonzalez. With Gonzalez, David Ortiz and potentially Carl Crawford they’ll need a lefty arm to shut them down.

Whomever does sign Pedro is going to get a very reliable lefty, someone they can hopefully count on in October.
