The Colt McCoy Show

Well Cleveland get used to it the Colt McCoy show is starting for the Cleveland Browns. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that unless Derek Anderson or Seneca Wallace make tremendous progress by the weekend, McCoy will be the starter against the New Orleans Saints. Regardless of the injuries, I believe that head coach Eric Mangini wants to give McCoy another chance to prove what he can do.

McCoy put on a pretty good show in his NFL debut considering his opponent, the Pittsburgh Steelers. For the game he went 23-33 with 281 yard passing, a touchdown and two interceptions. When you combine all of that it gave the rookie a 80.5 passer rating, that’s a pretty good debut I’d say. Matter of fact, I wonder if Anderson or Wallace would of done that well.

After a performance like that and with the Browns being 1-5, I’d say McCoy deserves another chance, don’t you?

In Week 7, the Browns face the Saints who have a pretty good bad pass defense this year but really struggled two weeks ago against another rookie, Arizona Cardinals Max Hall. In that game, Hall didn’t put up big numbers but he kept the Cardinals offense moving, which kept his team in the game. What will happen when the Saints play a rookie who CAN make decisions?

The team has a bye in Week 8, so by the time the team plays again on November 7th, Anderson and/or Wallace should be ready to go. But I’d say if McCoy matches his performance from last week, this week then I’d say he’s earned the Mangenius’ trust and the starting role.
