Richard Seymour Signs Franchise Tender

The Oakland Raiders have all their veteran players under contract now that Richard Seymour signed his exclusive rights franchise tender of $12.4 million. Kind of unfortunate for the Raiders I’d say as he’s not worth anywhere close to that amount of money anymore. In 2009, Seymour racked up four sacks and 47 tackles. Not exactly the numbers the Raiders thought they’d get is it?

Now that Seymour’s signed his tender he’ll be expected to be at training camp. He skipped out on OTA’s in an attempt to get a contract extension, and not just that he wanted even more money. Obviously the Raiders weren’t going to do that so Seymour was forced to take the one year deal.

So when you look at it things worked out for the Raiders, they got their guy back under contract but they can’t be happy. Cause you see what’s worse then the money is what the Raiders gave up to acquire Seymour.

Remember they gave the New England Patriots a first round pick in the 2011 and looking at the Raiders that could easily wind up a Top-10 pick. I’m sure Bill Belichick and the Patriots are laughing all the way to the bank with this one. They got a problem off their hand and got a pretty good prize for it.

Back to the Raiders thou, maybe Seymour can turn back the clocks now that he’s in an all out contract year. The Raiders could sure use it as last year their defense ranked 29th against the run giving up about 155.5 yards per game.
