Not even a full two months after suffering nerve damage it appears former Texas Longhorn Colt McCoy will participate in the NFL Scouting Combine next week. Statesman.com is reporting that McCoy is almost fully healed from the injury and will attempt to throw but may not go through other drills.
“I see the doctors every week,” McCoy said. “I go through the rehab process every day. I’m healing much quicker than normal.”
The report also has McCoy stating that he’s throwing 40-50 passes a day on average in preparation for the Combine. If that’s the case then I’d have to say his arm must be starting to feel better. Unfortunately starting to feel better doesn’t mean it is better. McCoy also said that he may not go through all the drills if doctors tell him he needs more rest.
At the moment, McCoy ranks third amongst the quarterbacks in this years draft but is a borderline first round pick. For him to work his way into the first round I’d say he has to participate fully in the combine and do at least average. Doing so, will show that he is a quick healer and also show his strength in rebounding so quickly from such an injury.
Can he do it? I’m not sure but at least he’s showing the heart scouts also want by just participating. Too many players now a days want to skip the combine and he’s showing up injured to show he belongs. This kids got the character scouts want to see.
So good luck Colt, hopefully you prove what you need to prove.
