Active Nats

The Washington Nationals have been pretty damn active in the free agent market lately. Today they announced the signing of Jason Marquis, they’re the finalists for the services of Matt Capps and NOW, they’re entering the Orlando Hudson sweepstakes. That’s right according to William Ladson the Nationals are looking for Hudson to take over second base.

@washingnats: The Nationals still have interest in 2B Orlando Hudson. If they sign Hudson, Cristian Guzman most likely will go back to shortstop.

Such a move would actually make sense for the Nats. The Nationals currently don’t have a competent shortstop. The two guys occupying the spot are Ian Desmond and Alberto Gonzalez. I know a lot of you just said “who?” at the same time. By adding Hudson and moving Guzman to short, they’d improve their defense up the middle and drastically improve their offense at the same time.

Honestly, I don’t think anything will happen between the two sides soon but its definitely both sides should continue to consider. If Hudson can’t find the lucrative contract he’s looking for he can easily take an offer from the Nats for a year and prove his worth, while giving Washington a little more credibility.
