A NEW York Option for Matsui

If the New York Yankees don’t bring back Hideki Matsui there could be a new option for the slugger, including their crosstown rivals the New York Mets. The NPB Tracker is reporting that the Mets have recently asked Matsui’s agent Arn Tellum for his medical records.
Chad Jennings of the LoHud Yankees blog talks about the Mets interest and brings up a good point. The Mets need a power hitter and Matsui has shown that he can still hit his fair share of long balls. Adding him to the lineup would instantly improve a powerless group. At the end of the post thou, he says the deal makes no sense in anyway and I totally agree!
Just hearing this is a complete surprise me, I really didn’t believe any National League team would even waste a minute looking at Hideki. I mean really, in the past two seasons he’s only played 23 games in the outfield. Do the Mets really think Matsui can handle the day to day grind out there? Or could they be looking at him as a first base option?
If the Mets sign and place him in the outfield, I’d say 14 games max before he has to miss an extended amount of time due to his knees.
So yea, I’m really not sure what Omar Minaya is thinking, but isn’t that always the case with him and the Mets?
