Jackson Knocked Out

The concussion Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson suffered last week is more severe then everyone thought. The team confirmed a report by ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio that the youngster was knocked out by the London Fletcher’s hit. “I don’t think I can go,” Jackson said. “I blacked out.”
With that being the case its highly unlikely that he’ll be a go this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons or anytime soon for that matter. The Eagles have been down this road already this season with Brian Westbrook and we all know they are regretting the decision to let B-West play just three weeks after blacking out himself.
Thanks to that decision and the leagues new focus on concussion related injuries you can be sure that DeSean will be on the sidelines for at least the same three weeks, maybe longer.
What amazes me thou is that the player himself is the one calling himself out. The Eagles never officially said that Jackson wouldn’t play against the Falcons. They never even mentioned how he blacked out after the hit.
For Jackson to come out himself and say this is the right thing and could be a move in the right direction for NFL players. He could be part of a new group of players concerned about their well being instead of not letting their teams down.
Then again if you talk to Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com you’d think something else. He suggests Jackson could be using the concussion as a ploy for a new contract after the extension Brent Celek just received. Unfortunately for that idea DeSean isn’t even eligible for one yet. So that blows a hole in his wonderful theory.
