Everyone knows Twitter and Facebook are the two biggest news breakers now in the world, word gets out quicker there then anywhere else. Free agent pitcher Jason Grilli used his twitter account to announce to the world that he’s got a new contract. The catch is he can’t yet tell us which team has signed him.
Grilli is an eight year veteran and this is now his seventh major league team. He’s played for the Florida Marlins, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers. So what team could have possibly signed him?
I’m not totally sure but whatever team he does sign with could get a quality reliever. He had a poor showing in 2009 but was pretty solid in both 2007 and 2008. Remember relievers can have a hit or miss season, ERA’s can balloon off of just two or three bad games during a season. So I’d have rather have a veteran who knows how to pitch and coming off a bad season then take a chance with an unknown minor league player.
Grilli is teasing his followers tonight thou. He’s entertaining guesses on what team he’s signed with but won’t respond.
While its a huge tease for his fans, I love what he’s done. He’s got a job and he’s happy about it. He wants to let his fans know before the mainstream media can report it. This is the way it should be the player himself breaking his personal news.
